TSS = Training Stress Score (relative index score calculated for each individual according to his (or groups) capabilities).......allows fit and unfit individuals to compete against each other.......almost like a Golf thing.

Thanks lads...well done Swiss. I just downed two beers...then slipping in to a coma. Very punchy track...kinda like it. Deffos need to get my fitness up...

Thanks, you kept me on my toes

We had our annual board meeting lunch 2day so I had 2 glasses of wine (1 white and 1 red) with lunch and then nothing else to eat for the rest of the afternoon....felt pretty good tonight so there might well be something in this alcohol theory (me not being a regular drinker of alcohol).

Need to find out what Mongoose drank for lunch, he was like the road runner...a little speck on the horizon

I battled to find a comfortable gear and kept getting caught out with the sudden changes in slope.

One thing i can say is that i would never be doing this kind of training (68 minutes @ an avg of 158 bpm / 243 W) on my own.

Tommorow i think i'm going to go swim float around in the pool for recovery

Ja look when jorrie, goose or dave is in the mix, its koebaai maraai. I don't even try chase them down...you will pop at about 20 min.

Agree, there is no way I will train that hard on my own, the race setting keeps you honest and motivated till the end, but I think it takes quite a bit out of you when you go this hard. So I think once a week is plenty. Also off day for me today...gonna inhale some pasta tonight

Oh and @Talus...regarding the TSS thing. Its actually a flippen cool number. As others have said, its a measurement effort based on your FTP number. FTP being functional threshold power. That is the maximum avg power you can sustain for a 1 hour session. Ok so with that being said, a TSS of 100 means basically you exerted the same effort as you would have for a 1 hour FTP time trail...So you can go shorter but your normalized power would have to be more, or go longer and then have a slightly lower avg normalized power. The nice thing about this number is built around YOU. So although mongoose beat the crap out of us ito time last night, his TSS might have been lower meaning we worked harder and got greater benefit from the workout...my TSS for last night was 122.4, that means I went pretty flippen hard, even if I say I was just effing around, the numbers dont lie.

TSS is also the base to calculate you fatigue and fitness levels. I have a great spreadsheet(credit I De Jongh) that uses your TSS scores over a period to calculate your fitness, form and fatigue levels. Let me know if you want it.

Thx rouxtjie. I would love to learn more.

No probs meneer, just shout, I am no joseph friel, but know a little bit. Very cool and scientific and if you are a numbers guy, you will have a fat jol with data you produce.

We need to train more like this and soon we will be catching those vinige fanies

My TSS was 114 I think (cannot scroll to my post from last night ) but I'm not sure on what FTP data cyclops is obtaining that from, don't think I have entered a FTP figure anywhere.

It does an estimate on your FTP if you didnt enter one. I did mine a while ago so manually entered it....under settings on your profile I think on the website.

I need to do a proper FTP test, I've been using the avg power from that Hagendorn race we did awhile ago. Its probably very close but it would be more accurate imo to do it without sudden fluctuations from gradient changes.

Did u do it on your powerbeam, and what option did u use to ensure the resistance is sufficient for the whole duration i.e. With my Joule computer I can select a manual ride using power or slope and increase / decrease it as required manually. I was thinking of setting a constant gradient of say 1 or 2 % and then klapping it and if its to much / little then make the manual change as required.

I see there is a FTP test listed under the "workouts" tab on the virtual training site when you login, not sure what level of resistance this provides tho

I did it on wattbike and on my powerbeam. Same results. Yes I used that 20min test. Works like a bomb...it adjusts automatically

you guys are giving me an idea.... I think I am going to split my 36One race into a few rides for me so that I see how and where I am training wise hmmm and trans baviaans.... I like where this is going!!! ride your A races before the time!!

This virtual training / racing concept is amazing once you have lashed out the $ for the a suitable trainer then the world is on your doorstep computer

Yes please, pretty please.....I know i am not part of the virtually superior power hogging clan.......but please throw a dog a bone (spreadsheet)........ it is lonely here in the wilderness.

Thanks. Appreciated!
