American Classic or Stan's Crest?

I am looking at upgrading my wheelset and was initially sold on Stan's Crest with Hope Evo 2 hubs.

Then I ambled around a LBS and saw the new American Classic Wide Lightning. I must say that the AC set looks better than anything I have seen before. I have also read great reviews about the effect of the wide rims (admin from the hub) was raving about them.

The AC are about R1000 more than the Stan's, so not much in it jto price. Currently leaning towards the AC.

It's for an Epic 29er. I plan to run a Rocket Ron on the front and Racing Ralph on the back.

May be Mamba, what cassette do you have on there?

Can you post pics?

Of the two Wide Lightning for sure. The extra widht is a game changer and on top of that they light, stiff and fast.

Racing Ralphs on my bike had noticably more grip and traction than on standard rims. Plus the hubs can be coverted, future-proffing your purchase

Note sure of the AC Wide lightning, but replacement costs for an AC 29er race rim is expensive, currently R2200 in comparison to a crest rim for less than R1000.

I have the AC race and have just had to go through the excercise of replacing a rear rim

You may want to bear that in mind and find out the cost of a replacement rim for an AC WL before finally considering them over crests

I am in the process of building my 26" American Classic hubs onto ztr crest rims because i'm not prepared to pay R1500 for one AC rim.

How does it work with AC if you damage a rim and need to have it replaced and therefore the wheel rebuilt? According to their website they only offer a crash replacement program in the US. And they do not sell individual rims so you have to send the wheel to them for a rebuild.

Anyone been through a replacement rim exercise via the SA agents and can tell me how it works?
