Dave, I would really like to be involved but Wednesdays I get home later - have you considered looking at an extended window of a few hours for us to do the race?

After Tuesday night, I took a look at this route and got to be honest, I chickened out. That bump at the end is bigger than my belly.

Well done to you guys.

sorry i did not join in last night guys, just felt flat the entire afternoon.

the route was really challenging especially at the end if you did not pace yourself correctly.

points will be put up soon as well as the over all winner.

well done to all who completed.

I did the route a bit earlier in the evening... got to say as hard as it is I think its a really good ride.

However I got to Clifton... and got otherwise distracted and wondered down to the beach for the next hour...

I did this for the first time last night just to check it all out. Was interested to know how much of a difference, if any, there would be riding on my Fluid2 trainer.

Went out the blocks a little quick, was probably still warmed up from my 2H mtb ride before the race.

It was interesting for me to see how the App automatically adjusts my speed, up or down, depending on the gradient. Half way through I thought i'de wait to check how our power numbers compare going up that last climb, by keeping more or less the same speed as you. From what I could see it looked like I actually had to kick out a lot more watts to keep the same speed.

I wasn't sure if being on the Fluid2 trainer would be an advantage, or disadvantage. The Fluid2 trainer adjusts the resistance automatically, the faster you go the harder it gets. This means that even going downhill I need to kill myself. I almost averaged 300W for the ride which seems like a pretty decent effort.

I absolutely hate riding on the IDT. This actually made it rather enjoyable, I have to admit.

I'm still not convinced that the fluid2 and powerbeam pro is gonne give the same result with the same effort on a route like that, guess its more or less the same as our avg.watts was almost the same. Believe me with the powerbeam you also need to pedal downhill to get the speed up!

The one place where I do think the powerbeam is 'n bit harder is when the gradient gets to 9% and up, the resistance from the motor gets so hard that you get the feeling the wheel slip on the roller and you get a "stop go effect" through the "dead" position of the crank, on a long climb this is making it really tough. Don't know how the fluid2 works, but I can't see it doing the same.

Don't know if the other guys with the powerbeams also experience this? Will be interesting what their thoughts is.

Any way, very well done for your first ride! If you ride like that after 2hrs on the bike, I really don't want to race against you when you're fresh!

I would rather fight a lighter gear on high resistance than a big gear on high resistance. You can only push a big gear at heavy resistance for so long, fatigue sets in quicker.

Let me put it this way. I find it easier to ride 40km/h + on the road than on the Fluid2! Dave would probably be able to give a little more insight, or some more thoughts on the different trainers.

Be that as it may... at least this might get me to actually use my IDT. Unfortunately I can't position my training around a Wednesday night race as i'm training for a few specific races.

I will try and participate in a few regardless.
