What an event! First stage race, but I can't see how it can get much better than this. All the hype around this event is true. It's awesome!

My partner held out well & improved every day. Yesterday's mud & slippery conditions saw me wiping out twice, but luckily nothing serious... Although I did manage to break a wooden slat on a slippery-as-a-bar-of-soap bride with my hip!

Today was absolutely perfect conditions and the ride was magic!

It's a must do event for anyone that loves mountainbiking!

Our turn to ride tomorrow!

Oi, my first multi-day as well. We're not up front with the quick guys... but I'm still nervous and excited all at the same time.

Sleeping over at my partner's place (much closer) and had to pack my on-bike stuff as well, looks like I've been kicked out of the house...  (Never knew a sleeping bag can take so much space in a bag!) Chatted to one of my buds who did the Ride and... now I just want to get going!

Did the Adventure last weekend. Awesome event! Much better than last year. The organisation, food and even the route was better. Some of the rocky sections have been made smoother. You will notice that the first 5km climb has been graded so it's much easier this year.

Enjoy!

Is Wines2Whales still a mountain bike race? At this rate, in a few years time, the route will be smooth slick tar all the way from Somerset West to Onrus.

They identified some of the prior year bottlenecks and put bridges etc in place. It is still much more technical than Sani2C and remember that the trail have to withstand almost 4000 riders in less than 10 days. By default the racers going through over the weekend will have more challenges than the A bunch from the Adventure.

They did do some fine tuning. In the past there were some uncomfortable surprises if one was riding at full tilt. Last year I came off twice a day. This year one minor step off. I want to believe I am better but the truth is it was easier.

As a friend of mine said the Pofadder has now become the Poefadder... Excuse the French

In the past it made for some good video footage, now everyone can ride it!

about R4,5k pp, next year might be more, bare in mind it's a team entry.

Per Team or person?

Really interested in doing the Ride next year, want to set the funds for it aside.

per person, and don't diddle daddle around when the entries open, except for the ride it sold out very quickly this year and I suspect the ride will also sell out quickly next year

Per person:

I see it as follow:

Jacket or bag (they alternate every year) +-R800

Meals (7 x R150) +-R1 050

Craft Cycling jersey +- R800

Tent, ablutions, showers etc +- R1000

Cost of the rest (route, marshals, other facilities such as medics etc) R550 per day = R 1 650

So not a bad value proposition if you ask me...
