One of the things I enjoy about the Vuelta racing:

There are time bonuses awarded with 10 seconds for a stage winner, 6 seconds for second place and 4 seconds for third place, except on the the time trial stages. Each intermediate sprint offers 3-2-1 seconds as well.

The unmissable stages

It’s a cliché that “anything can happen” during a race but there are some stages that matter more than others. If you need to plan ahead and book space in your diary, here are some suggestions for the stages to watch.

Stage 1 will set the early scene for the race with the team time trial with a naval theme.

Stage 3 has a tricky sharp uphill finish, tune in for a contest between sprinters and puncheurs

Stage 6 has the first summit finish of the race so watch to see the W/kg pecking order start to establish itself

Stage 9 as it’s a summit finish but also because it’s not so steep that it turns into a private mountain time trial

Stage 10 is the time trial, it might not be great TV but it should be decisive

Stage 11 for a tough summit finish

Stage 14 for the 24% gradient

Stage 15 another summit finish

Stage 16 ditto

Stage 20 as it’s the last mountain stage

Stage 21 the final time trial

I was well off with my punt for the stage. Very surprised by Cannondale, but well done to Movistar.

Garmin-Sharp had another 'mare.

I've downloaded a copy of the Vuelta a Espana 2014 Roadbook in PDF format - 54MB in size.

Too big to email to anyone but it's on the web (cyclingtorrents.nl) if anyone wants to download a copy via a BitTorrent Client.

Or if you have DropBox I can share it to you.
