I can see dumb people......

If going out on a bike, practicing a sport I love and wanting to make it home to see my family (repeating 6 or 7 times a week) makes me dumb then so be it

Agreed SP, however my one gripe is the fact that I am entitled to ride on the road and I will not ride close to the sholder. In fact even when i ride on my own I ride where I would be if I was riding next to somone else. There is just too much Sh^t on the road that keeps shredding my tyres.

Secondly, I hug the kirb or gutter card and truckes keep the same disance from me and I then have nowhere to go. At last if I am in the middle of the road i have space to work with and they see me.

There is a difference between riding defensive and being stupid. Most of the time I ride arms-length away from the kirb but IF it is safe to do so. But middle of the road is stupid.

+1000000 mampara

my personal view is if hte gutter is dangerously dirty i'll stay out of it. if a car comes up behind i point to it so they realise why i'm far away from it. oh, i have not had many punctures in my years cycling despite keeping as far left as i can.

being entitled to doing something and being right is not worth the fight if it's going to cost you your life.

being inconsiderate "just because you can" and your sense of entitlement encourages you to be this way is just plain rude.

Do you get special parking and numberplates with a "D" at the end?

I agree with Dick to an extent, motorist have no knowledge that we as cyclist are in fact by law entitled to cycle in the lane itself. But they think that if there is no 'cycling-specific' lane for us, we have no right to be on that road. Which is crap!!!

I agree obey the rules of the road same as evey other motorist or taxi etc, but the law and the rule is that we have a right to be on that road as well and not in the yellow lane as it is just as illegal for us to ride there as it is for any vehicle.

Riding single file is out of courtesy, the law doesn't say you must it says where possible do so. But if there is a 3 lane road, why can't you ride 2 abreast, there is two lanes next to you to get passed, but cars still pass so close, even in single file that rider's get cliped by a mirror.

Motorists need to be educated that we have just as much right on the road as them, that will be the first start. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just speaking to non-cyclists in my office they have had absolutely no idea that the law stipulates that a bicycle is a legalised vehicle on the road and have rights to be in the normal lanes. Since this has been brought to their attention many of them have come back to me saying 'oh guess what I drove behind these cyclists this morning and they were all over the road, I hooted like you told me (two short beeps) and they moved over and even waved at me", Motorists need to be educated!!!!!!

If we get a little bit more respect, then maybe we'll also start giving it back, it's a two way street (pardon the pun), not just the fault of the cyclists.

We had 2 good experiences with motorists just this morning. First where there is some 'upgrading' of sewerage or something being done and the road has been narrowed to one (very narrow!) lane a young lady patiently rode behind us for the 200meters or so then waved as she went passed then on our short hill repeat route a guy shouted encouragement as I rode my last big gear climb so there are some good motorists out there as well!!!

riding 2 abreast is illegal unless you are overtaking, no matter what -

Riding on pedal cycles

311. (1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle.

(2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle' date=' and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time.

(3) No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion.

(4) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall deliberately cause such pedal cycle to swerve from side to side.

(5) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall carry thereon any person, animal or object which obstructs his or her view or which prevents him or her from exercising complete control over the movements of such pedal cycle.

(6) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall do so with at least one hand on the handle-bars of such pedal cycle.

(7) Whenever a portion of a public road has been set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, no person shall ride a pedal cycle on any other portion of such road.

(8) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road or a portion of a public road set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, shall do so in such manner that all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times.[/quote']

in general ALL road users seem to have only read the bits and pieces of the Road Traffic Regulations that suit them, and have ignored the rest

end of the day what is needed is EDUCATION of the Regulations in their ENTIRETY

in the meantime i'd rather be alive then right

No matter what, This Marius Schoeman is a total idiot, I think we should vote him mampara of the week, what a dump statement, you selfcentered egotistical moroun of a person.  We all have the same rights to use the roads and he should look at his fellow motorcyclist before critisizing cyclist. I hav'nt yet seen a cyclist doing 260 kph on the Harties road, and then wonder why his buddy got killed by a car when the car turned infront of him. Mr Schoeman, please note that we are all road users, we all pay for this privalage by paying taxes and levies on fuel. Take your simple minded opinion and shove it where the sun does'nt shine.   Angry
