Sometimes I wish the ban for dopers would include social media.

A criminal not allowed back into the world after a served sentenced? This doesnt add up.

Nobody is saying he is not allowed back into the world. Just nit back into his chosen profession.

There are many professions where a transgression of the rules, or committing a certain type of crime, prevents people of working in their "chosen" profession.

Dip into a trust fund, and see if you can practice as an attorney again;

Get yourself convicted of a crime involving dishonesty and see if you can work in a bank or as insurance salesman again;

Do something that gets you struck of the register of medical practitioners and see if you can work as a doctor again.

Plenty of examples.....

Everyone makes mistakes it just shows up more with people in the spot light, the people complaining should look at there own mistakes first, worry about yourself, forgive and move on

I get in *** for my mistakes, why should a doper not get in *** for their mistakes?

Bunch of tree hugging hippies on the hub this morning.

If you cheat you deserve a life long punishment of being judged. Otherwise the cycle will not be broken and you are just pushing the youngsters down the same path.

Exactly, same if you want to keep your ca(sa) if you caught drunk driving, sorry for you.

You could go into politics.... No ethics rehired to run a country apparently.

I would prefer not to keep my money with banks who hire convicted thieves.

I would prefer to have babysitters who dont have a history of being touchy.

I would prefer a doctor who doesnt have himself listed as a source for organs on SilkRoad.

I would prefer to not do races that races that allow dopers in.

You see nobody is saying "dont let them back into the WORLD" they are saying, dont let them back in bicycle races.

Thieves are allowed back into the world, but not into banks.

Pedos are allowed back into the world, but not near kids.

Dirty doctors are allowed back into the world, but they can practice again.

Dopers are allowed back into the world, they just shouldnt race again.

Mistake?

Sorry, I missed the part where he slipped, tripped and fell on a syringe.

Several times.

I'm ok with ex-dopers coming back to ride. They are allowed to. saying a rider shouldn't be able to compete after serving a ban means that any ban is effectively a life ban.

some dopers are bigger dopers than others (fully orchestrated EPO regime vs some silly TUE carelessness). Show some remorse, try help improve the system.

but if they are chops about it, then they must get tjooned big time. and joe public can do this via twitter/instagram etc (if you don't want to heckle on the startline)

Ya Burty , we should all look at our mistakes , and hopefully learn from them .

But DOPING is NEVER a mistake !!

It is a willing choice made by the athlete .

The ONLY time it is / was a mistake ( in their eyes) is after they have been caught .

That is the Million Dollar question ......

Sorry they got caught .... springs to mind first .

I have yet to hear of a doper VOLUNTARILY admitting to doping , and then serving their ban .

I like your outlook on this, its slightly less forgiving, and this isnt always a bad thing.

It also in its own way points out that we might have lost the real agenda here.

Its not about "punishing" the dopers, its about creating a bigger discouragement for future dopers who are thinking about it.

The fact that people are now more vocal about dopers, and that the "bigger" races are taking a life time ban stance on doping, must surely contribute to their decisions.

My two cents.....if you are really sorry then do this.....return to racing and get back to what you love but don't contend for podiums.......

Then say so first.

Then contribute to cleaner sport (community service as such :)) by giving up your supplier, and blowing the whistle on others.

Then serve your ban.

Then go do the races that you are allowed to still compete in.

Do step 1 and 2, and people will be a lot more compassionate on your return.
