Cost of Hydration packs and bladders

Camelbak bladders are priced like printer cartridges. The complete bags are not too bad but the bladders on their own are crazy expensive. That being said if you look after a Camelbak bladder it should just about last the life of the bag.

not sure i follow this analogy - bladders are agnostic to the bag you bought. i've had good use from the nalgene one's i've used since they came out - has a magnetic clip on the mouthpiece that will stick to the widget you put on your shoulder strap (just remember to take it off when going adventure racing otherwise the compass is confused). think they're stocked at CUM, but have got them from first ascent.

same guys who make these bomb proof bottles that they seem to give out at JFK if you're a yank backpacker about to hit the world

I started out with a mr price Hydration pack...wanted a slightly bigger pack so i got a lobo...worth every cent i paid extra...pipe stays firm...so i dont have clip it under the chest strap...lobo pipe unclips from the bladder...it has a 3 litre bladder with a separator down the middle...mouth piece doesnt leak like the mr price one...storage compartments are more user friendly...the space behind the bottom compartment is better because it is sealed on the sides...perfect for bananas...was gona get a mule...but i am glad i didnt the lobo is perfect...got mine at a good price.

I store mine flat in the freezer with about half a litre of water...race day it comes out...add 1.5 litres of water...cools my back and keeps the watercold most the ride....it is gona be a really hot day i put 1 litre then freeze.

ive heard about this service

have you actually used it ?

cost etc?

Have used it once. Better to bring across a couple of items. The guys then combine the packages into one and send it over. There is a pricing tab that gives a cost for size and weight of package. There seems to be a minimum cost, just need to figure out what the optimum package size is. With import duties etc. the price of the items are around what you would pay in SA and sometimes a little cheaper...the major difference is the variety and selection of items which can't be compared to any SA site.

Stackry.com has bot a variety of courier option and only available for US delivery sites. Haven't used them...yet.

I have also used Amazon to deliver direct to SA. Took two weeks and package was delivered via Amarax. The cover I got for my tablet i couldn't find anywhere in SA (SAMSUNG original). No problem at all. Amazon pre calculated all the custom/vat costs and there was no additional cost outside of what Amazon US charged.

We all hate the price of Camelbak stuff but it is simply better than all the others. I've tried many over the years including high end stuff from MSR etc .... came back to Camelbak in the end for cycling. My MSR bladder now does duty in a mountaineering pack, fitted with insulated tube ..... and a Camelbak mouthpiece.

If you want to completely dry out a bladder if you aren't going to use it for quite some time those plastic practise golf balls are about the only way to hold the bottom of the bladder open to dry, otherwise it's neigh impossible.

I measure cost in terms of how much I use and how long I expect it to last.

My current camelback is on year 4. so if it goes in a year il fork out the money as I use it so much.

Goedkoop koop is duur koop.
