My mom on her commute home on Friday saved this little bloke from dogs.

Take that is was the property of someone that got out.

We are placing adds to find the owner of this fellow. The owner needs to have the needed documents before we will return Speedy (we dubbed him Speedy)

Did not want to tip him over. The only marks that I could see was a few scratches at the front of the shell. As if he climbed over something to get out.

Take him to the botanical gardens,

they are properly cared for there.

I think over the years i have found 4 or 5 in roads.

The top of his shell is a bit worn as well. And as you can see he is out of his shell, so must be used to humans.

Other thing we are afraid off is that it would become a meal to some of the people walking the streets. And it may fall prey to school kids (if they can kick a chicken to death, what will they do to Speedy) dogs (there is a pack of dogs that roams the streets, think there might be a bitch in heat) and the maniacs in their 4x4's and flat black cars...

Town here in the Cape if we find a skilpad, it belongs to no one... contrary to Northern belief, they are also found in nature.

Think a drop from that height is much worse than what a dog can do.

Take him to Groenkloof , thats where he belongs , but first speak to them .

Area we found him is about 70km from Groenkloof

That can work better. Know they will care much better for Speedy there

Agree with that.

And the 4x4 guys that speed down there streets. They care about nothing. They almost killed a kid two day prior to this. And after the bastard hit the kid, it just sped off. So if you have 0 respect for a human, what respect will you have for a creature of this nature?

Would love to see speedy release into the 'wild' were it belongs. Isn't there any game farms or sanctuaries close by? I recently found two of them on the farm roads and had them released in the nearby Willem Pretorius wildtuin. Cruel to keep them in a tiny enclosure where they wont get the balanced diet they need.

They do look after them,

do a vet check before they put them in and then they always monitor them.

I actually went and asked about a 2year old female leopard tortoise i found.

They took me to the gardens where she always is and showed her to me.

There was a place, but the last time we went there, the people killed a buck, stripped it and cooked it. And that was the people who were supposed to look after the place. Since then, we have not returned there.

They also burn parts of the place, and just the thought of Speedy burning... Not such a nice thought.
