Yesterday I had a puncture before I even got to riding on the bottom of Conrad.

Was asking around for tubes to no avail and I spoke to a guy that said he had put a 29" tube in a 26" tyre?

Now this boggles my mind, can this be possible?? And how effective can it be?

The 29er tube will be too big for the wheel but it should be good enough to get you home.

You can always make it smaller by cutting it and tying it - this could also work for a 26" tyre in an emergency. Consider going tubeless / carrying a patch kit :)

It will work fine for a while - just put a z fold in it somewhere, make sire it is not trapped, and pump it up. I have (in the past) run a 700c tube in a 26" wheel for quite a while... eventually wore a hole on the z fold.

I've done it before and it will work in an emergency. My buddy had been carrying a 26 Shrader tube around for ages (like 2 years, 2x Sani2C), only to find that he had Presta rims when he came to putting in the tube. Hauled out a 29 Presta tube and shoved it in.

Done this plenty of times, in dire straits, dont know why my one mate still has not gone the tubeless route!! except we never tied a knot but more of a fold over in the tire with the tube, in fact the tube in the 26er lasted that way for well over 3 months :)

The tube will fill up till there is no more place to fill up (i.e. once it reaches the tyre)

There'll be a few kinks, but you won't feel it at all.

I've also done the other way around plenty of times

similar principal applies...

It does fit but you may have to make it work

Thanks guys, my mind is now at ease with this thought and I know for the future...

As for tubeless, I jump too much so it's not the most advisable option

Why?

Tubeless makes more sense in that case, less chance of a pinch flat.

Then you wont have to worry about fitting big things into small gaps
