Cant wait... Ps andy, love the stuff you guys do on the za tech show podcast... And RTW.

Aw.. thanks man :)

This "brand ambassador" stuff for a cycle event is a first, but loving it - working with Hollard and the JUMA guys has been awesome. Hope you all enjoy #HollardJUMA. Only 6 days to go!

I see a number of roads on the route have "road closed" advisories up, just how much of the route is tar? just so those that feel sensitive about shredding their expensive rubber know.

Site said 90% offroad, so I'd bargain on about +-5km of tar on the 52km route. Likely just connecting certain of the sites. Everything we rode on the look-see ride was offroad.

Do storm drains count as tar? :)

Andy, couple of my friends wanna come watch, will there be spectator points on the bridge ?? Is it visible from dabs club house ?

Lots of facilities and place for spectators. Especially around the water bridge where a lot of the entertainment will be!

Here's an answer from the organisers:

"Food & beverage available at Marks Park. There will also be a Mitchell’s beer tent, Mother Truckers food truck(s) and coffee. Spectators can walk down to Emmarentia dam (down Orange Road) and watch the riders over 120m water bridge"

Going to post some notes about parking as well.

Ello ello HUBbers. Quick note on PARKING from the organisers...

(hopefully this doesn't start a flood of questions - all info is avail on the site as well as contact details if you have a super specific question - but this should cover it). As with all things Jozi and Parking related, come early (or get dropped off).

:)

  • Parking for the Hollard JUMA at Marks Park Sports Club
  • Access to the parking fields is off ORANGE ROAD
  • Cars must turn left or right off Judith into Orange  road coming from either Beuyers Naude or Barry Hertzog.
  • Cars must not attempt to come up Orange road from Emmarentia dam side as road closures will be in effect over Olifants and Louw Geldenhuys from 4:30am on the 12th Oct.

I really hope the organisers and route designers have thought this one through well. 4500 riders is a huge amount so they need to be really clued up to avoid congestion...

4,500 riders. Is that for both the 52km and the 22km? Any idea how many on the 52km? Looks like a fun course, just worried that it'll bottleneck easily (like 94.7 MTB)...

3000 odd 52km, 2000 odd 22km. It will be, just have fun and don't let the bottlenecks bother you. It's gonna happen most likely, so just enjoy the unique RIDE and forget about the RACE

4500 Riders  Nothing like mountain biking to get away from the rat race. Oh well, at least the real rats will clear out of the storm water system for the day with all that traffic.

Hope the rain holds off until after the race. Good luck to all the riders and organisers.
