S8. CANNABINOIDS

Cannabinoids (e.g. hashish, marijuana) are prohibited.

So long as man is human there will always be cheating. Without rules man cannot survive cause he has the natural tenedency to destroy himself. He therefore needs rules to survive, however he will always break the rules so as to get ahead.

This circle will never be broken so in actual fact there is no answer to this question, only opinion.

Thanx Velo. I'll give it a look. At this point i'm focusing on cycling because its a sport I know something about, but maybe I can compare the two.

Taking drugs is cheating.  The fact that it might be dangerous if administered correctly or at all is not relevant.  See it purely as the rules.

If you take a shortcut in a race or have a bike which is too light or get illegal assistance from your team vehicle you get kicked out.  Same thing with drugs.  You take it, you are a cheat!  You cheat yourself, your opponents, your team and if you are a pro; your fans and spectators.

Just stop doing it.  I don't like knowing that Floyd won with drugs, just as I feel cheated by Marion Jones, Barry Bonds and Arnie 'The Governator'.   They all cheated and that reduces there legacy.  Just as it should in any sport.

Just stick to the rules otherwise people just won't respect you.

Should the drugs be legal? Ask the children of the East German atheletes from the 80's. There was a study released a month or so ago, covered on Pezcyclingnews.com (I think) which listed the horendous damage that the drugs (eventually) do to the user and the mess it made of the children they had. I think it's the first ever long term effects study. Worth checking out.

But how do we know for sure that drugs harm us? Most of the medicines do have a specific purpose, granted. But they still remain for human use. We have seen lots of examples of where its caused damage. But I reckon there are more cases where it has not. You only complain if your car breaks down...you never complain when its going well!!

Personally, I think they should legalise drugs in sport. In a way, It could give the governing bodies more control over it, by ensuring the riders/athletes declare it without fear of punishment. In so doing, they can advise against some drugs if they can see the athlete is considering using them.

Cheating it may be, but we cheat with a lot of things and think nothing of it.

Cycling is rife with 'borderline' products. We all run out and buy Cytomax, USN products coz we believe its going to give us an added boost. This is exactly the same mindset applied to doping.

Scary thing is that the Drs and athletes are a lot smarter than we are aware.

I say legalise it.

I am a journalism student writing a report on the use of drugs in sports. The actual topic is: Why athletes should be allowed to use performance enhancing drugs - Obviously this is a rather difficult article to write. I was interested in your opinions on this matter? I am not asking if you use them, that is irrelevant, but I do want to know if you think athletes should be allowed to use them?

Personally I think illegal performance enhancing drugs or methods should be punishable at least with life long bans or the death sentence.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Reality is:

This is highly unlikely ever to happen.

Human nature will always produce some who will want to cheat or feel they have to cheat.

Dopers will always be one step ahead of those trying to enforce the law, and the majority of dopers will get away with it and their ?secret? will go to the grave with them (perhaps hopefully sooner than later).

So why bother to carry on farting against thunder, stop living in a dream world - lift all restrictions in professional sport.

After legalising what next, will there be a cap on what and how much one can use. Drug companies sponsoring teams to get exposure, bragging their dope makes you go faster than their competitions. Once you open the flood gates there's no stopping. More money should be spent on catching the cheats and so leveling the playing fields.

Trackies are no more susceptible to drugs than roadies or MTB riders.

Its different drugs that they may use...but they all still use.

In fact, I'm pretty confident there have been more road riders caught for use than track riders. But I may be wrong...its happened before.

I agree its wrong to dope. Its in contravention to the rules.

But I pose you this question...

If I could give you a drug that would guarantee you the ability to win the Tour De France and not be in any danger of being caught, would you take that drug??

I would.
