Wider and shorter. 740 min bar width and 60 max stem length. You can always cut the bar if it's too wide in the beginning

Going to wide with a too sort stem, will make the steering to jerky or sensitive in my opinion. It may work on a 29er but on a smaller wheel such as the 650, it could be to sketchy.

Guess my 780mm bar and 40mm stem on my 26er is a no no then?

And Mondraker with their forward geometry and 0-20mm stems must also be wrong. DH bikes with 35 - 50mm stems must be waaaaay out.

What utter hogwash.

A narrow bar with a short stem will do that. The wider the bar, the more control you have over your steering. The shorter the stem, the more direct your steering input becomes. Short and wide - controlled and direct.

My advise would be to try and aim for a 700mm bar width with a 80mm stem. It works for me on a 29er. Im not sure if it would work on a 650b?

That's not advice, it's your opinion.

Ps turn your spellchecker on

Many manufacturers are actually designing modern bikes to have longer top tubes IN ORDER to enable riders to fit shorter stems. Go and read about Mondraker Forward Geometry. A short stem gives faster response(shorter input movement) on your steering and a wider bar gives more control. It works in combination. All up to a certain point of course. The bikes mentioned above are mostly Trail and Enduro bikes where handling and control is more important than pedaling efficiency.

Wheel size has very little to do with steering dynamics.

Modern trend is for shorter stems and wider bars IF the bike's geometry can tolerate it and IF it suits your riding style and body size. Wide bars are great on a steep technical descent but less great when pedalling for miles on country roads.

Singletrackrider (OP) why are you unhappy with your bike as it is now?

Went from riding a 100mm stem with 680 bars on my zaskar to 45mm and 760 bars on my nukeproof. Both 26"

Love the wider bars. They give you so much more snap when you pull on them for power.

Controlling the bike in the air is also a lot better! (Yes I used to hit DJ with my zaskar :D )

But watch out for trees.[emoji13]

Shorter stems might also make long rides more uncomfortable. But that obviously depends on your current bike and your size.

Why do you wanna change it? I do agree with CPT its been proven by Mondraker and BMC that it works and I changed mine from a 685mm bar to a 740mm and then cut it down to 720mm with a 90mm stem. I have now changed my stem to 70mm and bloody hell the front end is more responsive now and it actually climbs better as well, stoked.

That doesn't physically make sense. A long bar means a greater moment around the pivot point, thus inputs will be magnified less at the wheel.

Well that's spectacularly wrong.

Why are you guys so offended by a person's opinion?

It works for me and all the camber's stems are between 60 and 100mm depending on frame size with handle bars of 720mm. If you don't like what works for me and most of the Camber riders, you are more that welcome to write a "spectacularly wrong" letter to Specialized and explain your "expert" opinion to them. Im sure they would listen. Now climb back into your holes!!
