GrumpyOldGuy Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 'Berto is in absolute control and I think Aru looked a bit frazzled there, I have been saying watch Landa since the third day and he is looking more and more like our third place podium finisher. As always, the Giro delivers another Great stage.
Jaco-fiets Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Hope Astana can give Nibs this level of support at the Tour. Great show of strength again today. Would be great if Landa gets a podium spot
GrumpyOldGuy Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Come on, whatever happened to that true Ozzie grit? If Porte can still ride well enough, they'll just change their strategy, going for stage wins instead. As Kiryienka said yesterday: "It seems that it is difficult for the overall now, but in the next few days of course we'll be there and we're going to try and fight for wins." 1000%Porte looked like he was struggling on the TT yesterday and today he just disappeared out the back before it even got grippy. No Ozzy grit there in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes home.

He should join Chris training camp and coffee back breaks in July.

It's well known he's got a hip and knee injury from that crash and he can't put a full pedal stroke in. But with all the disappointment and pain, he got up this morning and got back on his bike, even though he surely knew he was going to get another hammering today. But he put on his kit and went out anyway. And without any excuses or complaint. That takes courage. And I respect that. If he has to withdraw because of his injuries, then all the best to him. I wish him well in his recovery.
tombeej Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I just read that Astana's DS - Giuseppe Martinelli - was also Pantani’s directeur sportif in 1999 when he was up to his eyeballs in EPO and a list of other drugs, and was booted out of the Giro. Just saying....

Tough sport this I think the last thing he wants to do is abandon.

If I was another member of team sky I would be banging on his door every night. Not a fan, half the peleton is covered in bandages, I think he got a smack and lost his enthusiasm and now he is lipping at the back.

Just saying....I didnt know Martinelli was the Astana manager st the Giro?.. although I must say I also didnt really go look. Yeah, look, on the face of it we have to accept that they are been heavily tested and so far it all seems above board, so at the moment I am happy to give them the benefit of the doubt, if that changes...well,....I dont know.!
Patchelicious Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I think Porte is one of the last riders one can call a Prima Donna. He is always in good spirits, has worked selflessly for Froome and never moans. I don't like Aussies, but I'll buy that guy a beer.

Yeah, look, on the face of it we have to accept that they are been heavily tested and so far it all seems above board, so at the moment I am happy to give them the benefit of the doubt, if that changes...well,....I dont know.! The problem is we all had the same view with LA. He supposedly passed every single test so of course he was clean, right? That aside, we've now been shown proof recently that you can continue to micro-dose EPO and not only will the tests not pick it up, but the biological passport will not pick it up either. I also held the view that the 'new' peloton was essentially clean until I read Christophe Basson's 2014 autobiography. He now works for the French anti doping agency, so has first-hand experience with the new drugs in professional sports. We are way beyond EPO now. I've typed out this passage from his book in another thread. Makes for some sobering reading. After reading that, and looking at how the whole team has been riding so far, do you still think a team like Astana is racing clean? Like I say, if they all keep up this style of riding for a full 3 weeks, I'll be 100% convinced something stinks in the land of the Kazakh's.
Eugene Oppelt Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 When is his contract up at QS? He's not really fulfilled the promise and the ambition of the teams move towards a GC winner.I think his contract ends this yearWas really hoping for strong outing - he must be ill

HappyMartin Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Astana turn my stomach. Long time since I felt like that about a team. Really look like Postal don't they.
