Hi guys,

I am going to be doing my first 94.7 event this year.

Only have a MTB though (29er). Should I be changing my tyres to suit the race or is it not really necessary?

Cheers

If you going to do it on your MTB then go big or go home. Sure its easier on slicks but if you where looking for easy you wouldn't do it on a mtb anyway. Nobblies will earn extra street cred.

Like the guy I encountered on the Spruit this week riding a roadie with road tyres...

Ya this sums it up!

So I guess it comes down to whether you want a faster/easier finish time with slicks or the respect of all the MTB-ers while grinding the knobblies

But it is much cheaper to buy cheap slicks than to have to replace your expensive nobblies afterwards?

Or will the nobblies not take to much of a hammering on the tar?  I'm afraid of having slick nobblies after the race

Cool...   Nobblies it is

Looking forward to it.

Good decision particularly If you are tubeless then its quite a schlep to fit slicks, this time can be better spent drinking beer while watching the rugby.

Knobblies are pretty hardy and can easily soak up 94.7 km, plus the expense and hassle of removing then adding sealant again after,  :whistling:
