I hope this is replaced with no questions asked. If they offer a direct replacement, you should pay in and upgrade. These wheels could cost you an arm and a leg (literally).

I have to be honest, I'm not so sure if I am ready to pull the trigger on a carbon bike or carbon wheels. My carbon handlebar has got me nervous enough on some descents. I have a Giant Anthem and the Aluxx alu frame is not much heavier than a carbon.

Paranoid man! Carbon is stronger than alloy and can withstand greater forces before giving way.

BUT ... if you buy Chinese knock-offs, dont expect the same type of performance.

The Chinese are good at copying the "looks" of the product but not that good at copying the structural layout of the carbon that offers the same performance and integrity of the original product. Not alot of research and behind the scenes testing happening at the copy site.

They copy what they see ... you pay for what you see ... literally.

Watch this video, Carbon vs Alloy ... thested by the Santa Cruz boys.

Did you ride on these wheels? Or did they just go bust when you did the tubeless?

Pretty sure proper carbon rims (Enve, Alchemist, American Classic, Sram) will not fail like this.

Hope you get it sorted out without a hick-up.

not so sure that this is a valid comment anymore...  china has been making everything that we buy for the last 10 years.  if you keep on doing stuff you get good at it, that's how life works...  Obviously there are still some cases like to OP posted above, but bad quality chinese stuff isn't the norm anymore...  in another 10 years the chinese quality will pass the rest of the world, very much like Japan has done 15 years ago.

  Why not ask Johan Bornman about that?  He once tried to build up a set of new Enves, but a spoke pulled right through a part where the carbon was paper-thin.  Afterwards he built up two sets of perfect Chinese rims (by Light-Bicycle).  That said, I will only buy carbon products from Chinese manufacturers who have been extensively reviewed (positively,of course).

I was referring specifically to carbon products, not everything they produce/copy.

Carbon frames/wheels get layered in very spesific ways to provide the needed strength and support to withstand the certain forces.

Saw a video where a top end brand used 171 different pieces of carbon where they layered it in spesific ways in spesific directions to make their frame.

How many of those pieces does mr chinaman even know about?

I'm leaning more towards Rudi on this one. I'm very skeptical over the build quality of anything made in China. The 'Made in China' label alone is a warning sign for me. But that doesn't mean they lack the technology or skills required to manufacture high end products. There are certainly exceptions. Everything made in china simply can't be written off as rubbish. You would be surprised how many top brands have their manufacturing done there.

I agree that it depends on the type of material and process involved in manufacture. Both alloy and carbon come in different grades. I'm pretty sure the carbon used in a santa cruz v10 is far more densely woven than lets say a spez stumpy ht. The Chinese may not be making them to these standards. But I think its more because they don't give a crap rather than their lack of ability to do so.

Enve ,paper thin ?

Have you actually held an unbuilt Enve rim in your hand ever ?

It takes a wheel builder with real skill to build a carbon rim where you can't see the nipples.

Don't blame the "wheel builders" lack of skill on the product.

I think you actually said it well "he once tried"
