SANS Parks Tokai MTB price increase

To defend a 33% increase is strange, is there something I am missing here?

To use the (bad) examples from above have KFC increased their prices by that much recently? How would you feel if all your costs rose at a similar rate to Tokai?

The only real justification for an above inflation increase is an exceptional increase in costs and as the ST is not paid for by them this has a whiff of opportunist grabbing.

This may sound like a stupid question but you're saying none of the money for activity permits goes towards trail building and maintenance?

What they don't understand, is that they will lose the respect and support of those same people, even if they pay up and shut up. Once people feel exploited, they become unwilling participants.

I predict that we are going to see less support for maintenance, more littering, more vandalism, more illegal riding and building, more people sneaking in. That is what people do when they feel wronged.

Yip, exactly.

Yep, zero.

They charge for access not facilities.

All the Trail you see up there is thanks to donations and voluntary work by a dedicated band of nutters.

The TokaiMTB committee have a hell of a job on their hands, and it would be interesting to know if parks even consider discussing price hikes with them first.

I'm aware of the donations and voluntary work.

But I thought the committee people spoke of were part of Sanparks.

or at least affiliated in some way

Not part of or affiliated with parks, they do deal with them but are not part of their organization.

The price increase is inline with pricing for the rest of the park, like Cape Point for e.g. However, the facilities in Tokai differ greatly.

Waiting for the horses mouth to provide some info... dust off that sense of humour button.

ED: Oh and the prices are not discussed with the committee (neither TMMTB nor TokaiMTB) beforehand, we usually get a courtesy email - usually. This increase does not follow any usual pattern, so no email.

Look, on the other end of the spectrum – some would even argue planet – this increase places another reality at their door and that is one of commitment to bring the price inline with offering. 1.5km of new ST is approved and another 1.5 is in the pipeline..

My sense of humour button is a bit rusty! Oh wait, the Q20 is starting to work........

I see it now........they have built us a decent restaurant, charging dollar prices, paved the parking lot, put a decent fence around it, provided security so we don't get mugged and robbed, cameras to look after our cars, friendly helpful staff to tell us where the best new jumps are, the new trails they have built, miles of lovely flowing trails through flowering fynbos where they removed and eradicated the wattles.........Yea I can just see it.........

And then I woke up and still felt cheated!

Yep, didn't see the speed bumps while going over them and damaged the mounting brackets of my bakkie's bullbar underneath. My mechanic had to remove and repair the brackets with some grinding and welding before re-aligning it this morning. Not cool

I assure you that these speedbumps are not legally marked and therefore you have a case against the council (as they are public roads) for compensation.

mmh. The pain it must be to go down this road. I deal with the city often. Whenever I have to do so for what ever reason. I get the sense that everyone who works there has a *** attitude. I don't smaak for that. The best course of action is to make sure nobody else's vehicles get damaged due to lack of painted speedhumps and warning signs. An e-mail or phonecall here and there will just fall on deaf ears. They need to get flooded from multiple sources.

If I up my prices at the SANParks rate, my clientele will simply go to the competition.......and therein lies the rub........SANParks knows very well that they have no competition for Tokai. There is simply no alternative riding place with single track so close to the city, especially to the Southern suburbs. They know they can charge nearly anything they feel like, because most riders are wealthy enough to pay.

What they don't understand, is that they will lose the respect and support of those same people, even if they pay up and shut up. Once people feel exploited, they become unwilling participants.

I always suspected you  Southern Sub boys and girls were loaded .... not like us poor people on the West Coast ... proof, proof in deed

:D On this one little charge, your honour, I really am innocent, nearly as innocent as the day I was born! :D

i could be wrong, but the road from the split is actually a private road as it falls within the Parks area.

The speed hump sign is before the split therefore it must be public roadway. I am certain that this is city road. TM road is actually City road as well as Cape Point although they are in SANS Parks.
