Awesome event and we had 2 of the best support people a braai can buy ;).

Couple of things learnt though and will ensure next year's will go a lot better.

Big up to everybody who got medals and to everybody who got podiums. What very interesting to see how the numbers in the transition area and on the trail dwindled into the evening and the next morning.

Will certainly do it again next year.

I was really impressed by our school teams in this regards.  All 4 teams rode through the night, and we didn't wait for a single kid at changeover.  We had a simple scheme;  the kid finishing goes and wakes the kid taking over on the next handover.

We were freezing our backsides off at the changeover though.  Next year we organise a braai drum with fire.

One of these at the changeover area would have been awesome!  My whole body was convulsing and shaking while I was waiting in the middle of the night.  My fault for not taking any warm kit, but still...

We had a support member walking with a 2 way radio and the rider had the other one. We would radio in as soon as you were hitting the final turn into the transition area on your second to last lap for that shift where the second will then get the next rider ready. On your last lap you would radio in just before the last single track.

Worked exceptionally well, didn't miss a transition in the whole 24 hrs. Agree with the drum and fire. We had one at the camp, and it worked a charm. Rider would kit... warm next to the fire have a coffee... fill the tank and visa versa with the rider that came in.

It was a brilliant weekend. We will be back

Kudus to the guy working at Metropolitan that fixed my wife's puncture with his own bomb.  Much appreciated. Busy tracking you down to return the favour.

Do you perhaps have a name of said rider? I am friends with one of their riders, and might be able to help you track him down.

Someone that sounded like ~ "Etienne", but this might be way off.

More accurate description received from the missus might be "Lank, maer & a very nice guy"

My first 24hr event. Enjoyed it very much. We lost a team mate early Saturday after he massaged a tree and fell down a hill :) he did another two laps excluding his implants(due to previous motorbike accident) and some skin on his bent bike. NExt year I am doing solo just to get better sleep and being able to plan my own routine. When bikes break or rider gets injured the teams scedule changes drastically and my 2.5 hrs sleep for Saturday didn't help me much. Got my 8 lap medal, so next year 10 laps or a little more will be good.

Thx Dirtopia for a great event. Loved the downhil section and the easy timing system.

Well done to the uni cyclists - what a friends polite bunch of ppl - always going out of there way to let the faster guys pass - well done!

  no worries. We did try our best to get out of the way. The last single track was a little tricky because it was so narrow. I pulled a women out of a thorn bush there that had fallen in after trying to get out of the way of some faster riders.

Great race, really enjoyed it despite the lack of sleep. We all put in an awesome effort and rode the full 24hr's managing 16 laps overall, 4 each. I personally put in almost 7hr's of riding (clearly I was the slowest). Looking at the results we even beat some other teams  :whistling: .

The only thing that left a bitter taste in the mouth was the rather stupid joke the commentator made during the prize giving about the fact that we looked like we had Tourettes ? Really ? We put in all that effort, worked damn hard, and all you can come up with is a stupid joke like that ? No ... Really ?

I didn't have any issues with the uni cyclists and mostly went past on open sections or the one guy pulled over for me near the big berms.  Got stuck once on the last single track, but it was no slower than the woman in pink on the regular bike who was screaming going over the little bridges!

I still think that you guys are a little tarty though!

Really have a lot of respect for you guys.

Struggled on some section even on the 2 wheels from time to time and you guys to knock it out on one wheel.

Very polite and always gave way when it was possible. Cuppa cement stuff!

Not the first lame joke that oke's made, and it certainly won't be the last. Don't take it personally.

Great experience, huge respect to all that did it. The unicyclists were absolutely nuts, good job.

Strange how some people were ducking across the dam or leaving out that little single track loop on the last big climb, do the complete loop people, c'mon!

@Marius, I also spotted you coming in around 9:30am on Sunday morning while I waited in the transition, bloodshot eyes and this vague stare while your second was trying to feed you and you were spraying your legs with water, you looked absolutely broken and I cannot believe you kept going, a massive dose of respect, great job!

Thanks everybody, see you next year!
