yeah...carbon repair, new steel pivot bolts and bearings...if he can get that for +- 5k...thats a complete carbon cruz for roughly the price of that XT wheelset that it already has

New bolts plus carbon repair should not even cost half of that. If it does you getting ripped a new one. Just saying. ;)

I had the same failure the bolt sheared resulting in triangle breaking got mine fixed at a reduced cost by Mikes Bikes as a crash replacement claim

Interesting hey....thats multiple cases I have seen with the exact same result. Did you change to steel bolts after the fact too?

No fitted new triangle and santa cruz do a replacement pivot kit so replaced them all with new set you get everything new for whole suspension

Looking at pics it seems the threaded end of the bolt is on same side as the rigid triangle.

If possible to mount the bolt other way around it would see less shear at the base of the thread where the stress is most concentrated. Depends on how it fits.....cant see all the parts in the pics

The bolt threads in to the rocker, so no dice. The best is to replace the Ti bolt with a steel one. The standard ones would be better if they were made of cheese.

Hey guys

Its more a frame failure as a result of a bolt failure. anyway...a mate was given a Santa Cruz blur xc by his BIL as a result of a catastrophic failure. His BIL was just going to strip off the components and give those to him and throw the frame away, but we told him to just get the whole thing as is.

So here it is

and this has happened:

As a result of this:

Reading on the net, this is not an isolated occurance and a lot of people recommend steel pivot bolts. So with it being a known fault, I was wondering if he (through his BIL) had any recourse to claim a new frame from Santa Cruz via wherever they bought it from

and....second prize...buy a new swingarm...or get the existing one repaired

interested to know others opinions

nice bit of kit to be handed...bust or not!

If you are looking at the repair option, Graham in Durban is a master with carbon. He has done some work for me  and I have seen some of the frames he has repaired. PM me for his details.
