Today's stage was definitely stage 5 of the Dauphine though.

Here's that descent of the Col d'Allos where Bardet attacked at the summit. Because these are his home roads he was able to open a 1:20 min advantage by the time he reached the bottom. He's a very good descender.

Here's footage of that descent. The hairy sections are towards the bottom of the descent.

I think I know which pretty climb you mean. Are you talking about the Lacets de Montvernier that they're going to be climbing tomorrow?

That is the stage I've been waiting for this whole tour.

It's a climb I've been drolling over for a couple of years now, and I got all giddy when the announcement came out that they're finally including it in the TDF.

Here's my post all about it (it goes for a few pages to cover it all), and the amazing Maurienne Valley that they'll be riding through tomorrow. That valley is basically the centre of the universe for fans of road cycling, a kind of mecca that you have to visit at least once in your life.

Ha found it again... it's tomorrow on stage 18

The Lacets de Montvernier is situated in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and belongs to the Alps . Starting from Pontamafrey-Montpascal, the Lacets de Montvernier ascent is 3.24 km long. Over this distance, you climb 277 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 8.5 %.

LOL.. we found it at the same time.

Gosh it's beautiful.. and I really hope we get bloody coverage of it.. I waited for it the whole Dauphine and then Tony decided he'd get all solo and go climb it too fast and we couldn't see them go up it lol

WOW!!!

Will definitely visit that when I'm over there!

Beautiful hey.

no fans allowed on the side of the road there tomorrow, or that is what I understood, just there is zero space for cars or fans as it is also quite narrow

it's going to be an incredible sight.

It will be interesting to watch a big climb without fans. I wonder how that will change things.

Team cars will also be an issue.. they wont be able to just move up to a rider with a mechanical that easily.

I think it's great.. adds to the drama

Weather: sunny at the start with temperatures of 25˚C for much of the way with the chance of a shower and a thunderstorm later in the afternoon.

Bertie has been hoping for some complicated weather.

They've actually had brilliant weather.

The Valverde - Quintana 1-2 punch is gonna tear this race apart. For the sake of Chris hope Porte doesn't have his traditional rest day blues.

Oooh it's gonna be good!! [Rubbing hands, giggling gleefully!!]

imagine a Valverde, Quintanna and Bertie team up .. hits hits and more hits.

It's more going to rely on Thomas's abilities hey..

(edit)

It would be a crime not too!!!

:-)

You could wake up in your alpine B&B in the town of St Jean de Maurienne in the Maurienne Valley and decide whether you want to head out for a day of exploring any one of these legendary TDF climbs - all within riding distance of your front door:

Col du Galibier
Col de la Madeleine
Col du Télègraphe
Col de la Croix de Fer
Col du Glandon

Or take a day trip 70 km away to reach Alpe d'Huez.

Imagine living here. What a place!

This is the most favoured stage of the tour. I've been dreaming of major comebacks of some riders(won't mention who) on this stage. Those climbs is something to be negotiated with class. I think there are only afm few that can do that. Quintana Contador froome and valverde is favorites for that. Nibles might might not.
