Seems like a perennial topic here, but anyway some pointers and comments to try and help you on this cause it seems you are going in the wrong direction on this (Op that is). Probably said before but anyway:

1.) Those hooks on the rims that are internal ridges are what makes the ZTR Crests special. Those things that make the tires hard to fit are what stops them coming off when they are flat. I rode a completely flat tire with a nail in the sidewall about 7km and those beads held the tire on. Only purpose built tubeless rims can do that. Others you would be walking.

2.) Tubeless has so many benefits its not a real debate any more. You don't see Motorcycles and cars with tubes in any more do you. Its just got so many benefits that far outweigh the risks. If you have a serious tear you cant seal and cant fit a tube phone your wife or GF to collect you.

3.) Don't use non tubeless tyres unless you want to have the problems associated with leaking sidewalls, torn sidewalls etc. They are purpose designed by the manufacturers. So you change that around you are outside the performance envelopes and consequently you compromise somewhere. Weight/Strength/Price - pick two.

4.) Do this right and as you will hear you very rarely pick up any issues so this becomes a problem free area of your riding. Purpose built rims + Good tires (Tubeless with good sidewalls- they do cost) will mean no more issues.

5.) On tires - cant stress enough these are what people get wrong. So its not just any old tire that you can use. Or put it this way - you want less hassles then go with the purpose built stuff. Getting it to seal is one issue. Riding it and getting through the race is another. This is where about 99% of the hassles that people talk about come in.

lol

I do all my mates conversions cause I have a little compressor, so have had my fair share of combos. Entry fee is a sixpack...they know the drill.

How about a youtube tutorial?

Off topic, but related.

Considering a build with the Hope's on Crests.    Ride a fair bit of trail, and the 200g less per rim for the Crests over the Archs seem like a good way to save weight.  Will the Crest survive intermediate trail riding, or are they XC only?

32 hole.  No idea if there are other options, but this is all available from CWC.

I've had Crest for a few years, no problems out there on events like Sabie, Barberton, The Monster et al and I tend to keep my fingers off the brakes going downhill.

Depends on rider weight and intended use. I usually er on the side of caution and would rather go for arches. They are also wider giving a better tyre profile. Edit: was thinking of alpine.

That said many love the crests and they seem to hold up quite well.

Check out cwcycles. They'll probably work out the same or cheaper than CRC.
