Nitrogen in Tyres

Popped into the Local BP and put nitrogen in my tyres .

You will not believe how much better the handling is.

And the debate is normally about tubeless etc

Do you also wear a Power balance bracelet?

You are right. I won't believe it. Neither do I wear a Power balance bracelet.

MTB or road bike? I know pure "air" is like 70% nitrogen anyway but I wonder if pure nitrogen would affect the sealant in a tubeless mtb tyre?

Nitrogen is very unlikely to - it's an inert gas...

Air-78% nitrogen,21% oxygen & 1% argon and other gasses.

To get pure nitrogen into your tires you would need to vacuum all the air from the "sealed" wheel or you would still just have a mixture of gasses with a lower oxygen %

Ok seriously haven't done it.

But I was wondering why not.

People are putting nitrogen in their car tyres and it is said to improve things.

So why not put it into your bike tyres ?

Instead of having a Co2 bomb have a nitrogen bomb

Helium seems like a better idea to me :)

*except that it would probably leak out quicker than air...

They are a total gas to convert tubeless....dum dum dum...dishhhhhhhh

Define "things" said in my best JB voice impersonation

All it MIGHT do is reduce the leak rate i.e. you might not need to pump your tyres as often as with "normal" air

the only valid reasoning I see behind this is that nitrogen weighs close to half of carbon dioxide at molecular level. However, Carbon dioxide is denser than Nitrogen so with nitrogen a very high PSI may be required (off the top of my head) to have the tire respond more like a cushion as opposed to a silicon implant.

I have to go at this again. there is a clown in the office where I work that starts almost all his sentences with "they say", "most people", "it is said". I consider most sentences that start like this as utter bull.

Test it properly, get suitable results and know for a fact whether it is better or not or circumstantial or not.

It is put into car tyres.

If there was no benefit why the Hell would they do it ?
