Please Help a Brother

Each morning on our ride there is a guy that we get en-route towards town. We normally get him about 15km out of town. With his crooked bike he commutes to work on a daily basis, six days a week. (it is a standard state of the art kind of old school MTB)

He lives in a room on a farm between Hopefield and Velddrif which is situated 19km from town. One of our group riders saw him one day, walking the endless kilometers and between a couple of guys we got him sorted with a bike, a helmet, clothing, a front and backlight, gloves and a rain racket for the winter and a pair of comfortable flat pedals.

On a daily basis he commutes to work, this morning there was no faint light to be seen... The time check we normally have to see that we are above or below average was missing... this morning there was no Phamandla in sight. We all asked questions, we have literally never missed him.

I went to the estate where he works as a gardener and I left a message with his supervisor who promised to let me know when he arrives at work.

later I got a call, Phamandla's bike had been stolen on Saturday after work when he stopped at a shop or something, and yes, he walked all the way to work, that is why we never saw him...

He has to walk to work and back each day, the road on which he travels is very quiet and there is no public transport on this route to town.

Is there anyone who can help and donate a bike to our brother please?

I wish I could...Hope anyone of you guys can help with my request.

Thanks

I've got a set of Magura Hydraulic brakes for the bike. They need a good bleed.

No ways im giving them away in the classifieds. Might be for sale the next day with only a few hundred km's on. Or only used 5times

Let me know if there is someone shipping stuff from Pta to Cpt.

Its on the west coast. An hour from Cape town.

Please excuse my cynicism, and correct me if I'm wrong. If you get him another bike he is just going to get it stolen again.

You're going to have to get his buy-in and make him pay in some way or you'll just become a permanent sponsor.

Trust me on this one.

And seek advice from Dipslick, current superman of benefactors and do-gooders on The Hub. He is more sensible than most regarding items of this nature

A lock is probably the most important thing. With regards to the bike..my boet finds old steel steeds for a few hundred bucks on gumtree et al on regular occasions....maybe this is the route to go...and I agree about the accountability/payback comment raised earlier

I'm flying to CT next week. I have nothing to donate at the moment but am happy to take anything (including a bike) down at my expense.
