Sorry, I need to rephase! They suggested keeping the crank but upgrading the shifters as well as the front and rear derailer to XT which is what I am going with.

Now just the questions surrounding the brakes...

Hmm the front deraileur is SRAM / Specialized so what are they UPGRADING?

As for the shiffters, XT and x7/9 is simular, and the XT RD is a downgrade from X9

Besides the Brakes...where is the entry level components?

that groupo on that bike is more than adequate as everyone has mentioned. Spend your money on the brakes...XT's would do the trick...

If you have already asked them to makke the changes and can't pull out of the deal then you will still get a nice bike, but it was a fairly nice bike already. If they are changing brand new components then I hope they are passing you a credit for the parts that will be removed, or giving them to you, because they should!

If you can pull out of the full XT upgrade deal then I agree with most others....do the brake upgrade, check the shifters will be compatible and leave it at that. When all these components are worn it is the time to change/upgrade if you want to.

The X9 stuff is XT equivalent, X7 is kinda on a par with SLX. It is all good robust equipment.

Enjoy the new bike.

Thanks for all the input everyone - much appreciated!

They have quoted me R985 to swap out the stock components with the XT shifters as well as XT rear and front derailers so I am getting some sort of credit. For someone who is biased to Shimano I thought this was pretty reasonable.

Just waiting to hear back on what they can offer me in terms of the brakes.

What is it with this Full XT stuff people are on about....

Yes it is robust but it does not mean that Sram x7 is crap or x9?

Just asking

Took delivery of my Epic Comp last month and although I've had better brakes on previous bikes there is nothing wrong with the C1 set on the bike. Ride it till they are done and then replace them.
