Anyone doing some regular swimming at Emmarentia?  If so...

Whats the situation with security/where would you leave your car keys?  And is there a group that gets together for this - ie: I need some motivation to get my lazy backside out of bed and into the water...

I have seen people swimming there often, but haven't noticed where they get into the water(I'm too busy trying to catch Fish). I would suggest going there on a Saturday or Sunday when the Dam is at it's busiest and ask someone at the canoe/kayak clubhouse thingy; they will be able to shed some light.

Alternatively, I can hook a swimmer with a long cast and drag him to the side, then beat the information out of him...

Car keys=problem.  Last year there were swimmers on Friday afternoons and other days (not sure which).  So Friday afternoon probably a good start.  A bright coloured swimming cap will give canoeists and other users the heads-up.

You get in at the canoe entrance and start on the canoe ramp. If you stand on the edge of the dam and look back towards the road, there is a huge wall built up of with brick type stuff that have pockets in them. Most of them are overgrown with schrubs. I always hide my keys in there somewhere, not bomb proof but ive never had an issue. There is a car guard that hopefully keeps things safe.

i try to go every friday, it's a pretty good swim, and the canoeists add a safety factor in case. just sets your mind at ease. usually at about 5 there is a pretty decent group, and there are wives watching gear so keys have been pretty safe.

I recently did a comprehensive water study on Emmarentia dam for recreational users including water testing, so If any of you want the results just PM me your Email. In general It was concluded that the water in the Dam is more than safe enough according to South African guidelines for recreational use including swimming.

Great - hopefully I can catch up with you guys on Friday :) - I'm assuming its 5pm?

Knotted condom tucked into your swimming trunks works the best. Care, don't use those ribbed ones as it may slow you down.

Emmarentia is known for a lot of things.

Standing on the waters edge in lycra unrolling a condom might invite offers you were not expecting.

What about the WATER QUALITY??? Jeez, it can smell really bad sometimes...

Put another condom over your head,

Or read Google's post a few up.

That is today's crappest idea. Many a canoeist has gotten off the water to find keys and car long gone when they tried that. Ask me how I know.
