Just needing some linear pull drop levers like the Tektro RL520s

do you still need those if you're running disc?

Yes, if they are MTB disks which have the same pull as V-brakes.

If they are road disk brakes, then you can use standard levers.

ahh, got you, made the mistake of assuming you;re running road calipers, although they might be an easier find that the levers you're after?

possibly, but I reckon the levers will be cheaper. I already have the disk calipers. Levers are £16.50 on Chainreactioncycles

So bought a set of cheap aero levers to set the bike up with in the meantime. They'll work, but maybe not optimally. But hey they only cost R175, so I'll keep them in the spares drawer.

The next question is......

Gears or SS

Go with gears if you are going to ride it off the beaten track....

That is going to be amazing! Shorten your stem and add spacers to lift it up. Remember your hoods need to be where your current flat bar is, that will take some adjusting and fiddling

Have a shorter 35 degree stem to raise the bars and bring them back. Failing this I'll have to get a stem extender
