So, this 27.5er thing.

So you have been through the various wheelsizes then.

All the local mags are very thin on info and are extremely marathon orrientated and tend to spew out the same info yearly .... they do however carry many glossy pages of adverts. No, they are not just "punting" the 650B (27.5" is not a true size to the wheel as this is not exactly half way between the 26'er and the 29'er) but also still aggressively pushing the 29er format and in particular the 100mm travel travel bikes.

Your comment of "27.5.....just doesn't cut it. A bit like kissing your sister! " please elaborate how this is not coughing up a big furball of note!

I have been on many bikes in the various wheel formats and there is a place for all of them.

My personal opinion on a 650B is that it rocks.....but then also consider that a wheelsize is one thing and a bikes geometry and build spec are another, no matter the wheelsize, if the latter is K@K, then the ride will be K@K.

My best cough from behind my keyboard after coming back into the office from riding my bike.

Yes been through many bikes of all different wheel formats and I couldn't agree more, there is a place for all of them. Nice to have options depending on what suits the individual (that's why I tried them all). As someone said earlier in this post, this topic has been discussed to death so we can carry on all day/month/year about geometry, build spec, travel and wheel size (29, 27.5, 650b, 26) etc etc.

If 650b rocks your world that's great. It didn't rock mine hence my light hearted opinion/comment. Was a joke....chill out if you think its a big fur ball of note!

PS - I didn't say "just" punting.

if you have a sister (and she's hot) can I kiss her? Then I'll tell you what it will feel like when you ride a 27.5.

No vibes taken dude, maybe I just suck at riding 650b!! That's why I ride 29er, it allegedly helps me roll over obstacles easier....like when my sister is blocking the single track :whistling:

Dude, your sister should never be in front, unless she is riding with a very hot girlfriend of hers, then she should be right in front with the friend in the middle :)

Obstacles ... never knew the JHB trails had those :P

Cheers man, have a good evening further!

I recently sold my Zula and bought a Tallboy. I was kinda worried that the TB would feel sluggish and truck like (i.e. less fun and nippy) in singletrack compared to the 26inch Zula, but I was pleasantly surprised. Really can't say that there's much of a diff. So I don't know about other 29'rs, maybe the TB is just a very sorted bike.

You got that right !

Got say 26er is for the hard cores only, so unless u can ride dropes, rock garden and down Everest get a 29er.

YES! Yes! yes!

I AM hardcore - at last !!

Anybody want to buy a 29er(or 3). Looks like I need a smaller wheel sized based on this.

On a serious note; This might work as a rule of thumb for noobs or the uneducated (no its not the same thing). But you cannot just apply it across the board like that.

What works for noobs IS education - how tall are you? what is the intended use of the bike? budget? fit? etc etc. The right bike shop will do this.

Yes, that too. Add to that the fact that Niner were leaders in Niner geometry... Hence the name. Only ever produced 29ers. Their Air 9 is beautiful, for a hardtail...

AIR9 is sexy.

SIR9 is beautiful.

^_^

Yes, I love my beautiful SIR9...

Yes, but the height of the tyres brings the size up to appropriately 29". So the bikes handle more like 29ers than 26ers.

No. They dont.

They handle like a fat bike. Nothing like a 29er or a 26er.

I have all three.
