Are hou saying threy apply maximum speed limits?

More importantly, i have not done the ride before, how many water tables and what drinks or snaks will be available?

DONT WORRIE FOUND ANSWERS

I'll answer in case other people want to know.

The event is run under Audax rules, and results are homoligated by the Audax Club Parisien in France. You can read the rules here: http://www.audax-club-parisien.com/EN/312.html

The checkpoints have opening times and closing times. You have to have your control card signed between those times. These times are set such that you can do a min speed of 15km/h and a max of 30km/h. If you do go faster than 30km/h, you will have to wait till the opening time before you can get your card signed and continue.

There are 2 checkpoints. The 1st is at the Sasol garage in Broederstroom. The second is at the Wimpy in Magaliesburg. You can buy refreshment at these checkpoints, or at any shop along the route.

There are no water point setup by the organizer like you have in races. (One of the Audax rules is that each rider must be self sufficient.)

so me and my friend entered.  how many people usually ride?  how many female riders? what would be a reasonable time?  (we did 94.7 in 3h04)?

There are 110 pre-entries. We estimate there may be 150 riders on the day. You are probably looking at a time of 8hrs to 9hrs.

I think perhaps I took a wrong turn at around the 166km point. Out of interest, at 166km did you guys turn right or left? I ended up climbing a long 8km hill to Krugersdorp, so called my race over at 176km.

Continue straight over on Hendrik Potgieter then turn left at Christiaan de Wet (I think) and right at Rock Cottage.

EDIT: Sounds like you rode up Sterkfontein instead of turning left on N14.

so we really enjoyed the ride, joined a bunch that worked well doing around 26k/h, very comfortable.  cheers to Colleen, Mills and Maurice for pacing the bunch so well (and all the hard work upfront offcourse)

What an awesome day! Perfect weather, great company, nice vibe and food at the finish. Thanks to everyone who participated , and to Cresta Wheelers for the best attended Audax in some time.

Attention now turns to the last problem of the year, 400 on 21/12. Who's in ?

Ian Kernick was the chair of the Cresta Wheelers cycling club for a period during the 80's.  He passed away very suddenly of a heart attack despite being quite fit.

What a great ride indeed!

Our group was filled with VA & VB racing snakes and there were a good few loooong intervals in there for what was supposedly a "chilled ride". Loved it!
