Who actually gives a flying fanny hair what skills another rider has.

So what if he or she walks a hill or a rock garden, if they pip you on the line, they beat you.

End van prent! As another well respected Hubber would say

I've kept myself from asking the same question, maybe Dick did the 40 on day two...

I was lucky enough to start in group A and I consider myself a skilled rider, but I had to concentrate a whole lot more on day two than most races I've ever done,..and yes, my apologies Dick, but I clipped out once or twice in that 10km rock garden, even with a 3min57secs down Dorsberg and 3min45secs down Hoogekraal downhill on my CV....I obviously suck at this and should take up bowls or chest or some other RedBull sponsored sport.

Well done on only once or twice Brandon !! Thats impressive. I had about 3 ''lie downs'' on that section and about 10 uncleating moments as well. The cherry on the top was when one ''faster'' rider decided to overtake me and got it wrong....he ended up falling onto me and me falling into a bush. so there we were, both trapped under his weight and both of us unable to uncleat and get up off the ground. We could ONLY laugh at the situation !!! Toughest 68KM I HAVE EVER DONE ! Or I'm just soft....

must say also disagree, chasing on the dirt roads then walking over every small rock is what creates bottlenecks. issue is not skill level but courtesy, for other riders and mutual enjoyment of the trials

I had some training done for that section earlier in the year, when I did the Bo Piketberg race, I kid you not, 65km of the 70km route was like "that" section at Origins, seriously, it was relentless, go search the forum on that race, proper proper mountain biking...

Simple answer is that if you want to throw down your skillz then ride with your mates. If you ride a race and you are seeded lower down (Or higher up....) then be prepared to queue for single track or descend single track with a choir of squealing Avids (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

I ride in the 3rd quarter with the kids and housewives (I don't like to train) and I like the tech bits. I don't like to pay R150 to queue for single track. I would rather spend that money on fuel to drive to a spot and pay an entry fee and ride at my pace with my mates and get to do stuff repeatedly if I liked riding it the first time. Stop and chat, take some photos etc. No fighting for parking and queueing for food/toilets etc.

Works for me. I doubt I'll race again. With so many entries, It's not fun anymore. Rather hit the bike park when everyone else is queueing for single track ;)

Lol spot-on dude. If you want to walk a MTB route then get some running shoes and leave the bike at home.

All the pro's who walk their bikes at The Epic should take this sage advice .

In some MTB events/races it is ALL about the skill and actually not crossing the lines...ultimately that has become the skill level I wish I could have a bit of one day..

Edit: I.o.w it isn't about who gets to the finish 'line' 1st, it is who does all the tricky parts without failure..

Money buys performance enhancing products.

Performance enhancing products makes you strong and fast.

Some of said product shrinks your balls. No balls makes you slow on technical

Fitness and no skill in products makes on angry when skilled people pass you on singletrack.

There are instances when it creates a safety problem. When a fast rider hits a singletrack they cannot ride and then proceeds to block the trail, especially on a switchback the situation created can be very nsaf for those behind especially if the switchback or other trail feature does not have features around it that the riders behind can take to avoid an accident.

sure its all part of the game and I see both sides of the story so it really just boils down to etiquette and understanding the rules of the game. Etiquette and rules understanding works both ways too.

I always apply a few simple rules.

1) Keep left pass right

2) if I can't ride the feature, dismount and apply 1

3) If I can ride the feature, pass right after communicating intentions and rider infront is well aware of whats going to happen next and where.

Skills I'll never have

Fortunately though, even without numchuck, computerhacking, and trials riding skills, I can still have an awesome time with awesome people on my bike!

It's always about crossing the line if it's called an event or a race.

And the person that finishes ahead of you, they beat you, no amount of skill or lack thereof will change that .
