The dealer that I ordered the bike from offered me a hardtail bike that I can borrow for the race (brand new).

Good dealer, lekker service there. Who's the dealer?

Phoned momsen again, apparently a shipment arrived last week, but the containers where blown of the ship by some hectic storm, hence the delay. The dealer that I ordered the bike from offered me a hardtail bike that I can borrow for the race (brand new). I think this will be my best option, as all my friends have medium frames. I cant seem to get hold of Giant to find out what is going on there(really starting to dislike them). I know I can buy another bike but I really want a vipa and I know I will just hate myself if I pitch up at the next race and I see a guy with a vipa knowing I would have had mine by now. Will update as it goes along.

That sounds like a big, fat pork pie.

Too many horror stories floating around about shoddy Momsens.

My wife had her bike's frame replaced a while ago - she got a 2014 frame (is a 2013 model) within 3 days.

No stories or any funny business from the manufacturer and LBS.

Harry Scheepers in Middelburg GoCycles. GREAT dealer. That is the reason that I try and stick too one shop, people tend to go the extra mile when they know you, but here in lies my next problem. If I take him up on the offer I am effectively taking a new bike and making it second hand and screwing him. What would you guys recon be the appropriate thing to do here, because it is not as if any of this is his fault?

Yip, they have a reputation of not being the best after sales service agents out there.

Here's my STR Momsen frame. Look how skew the rear bottle cage rivnuts is on the frame. attachicon.gifMomsen 2.jpg

They replaced the frame for me and guess what, the second one was precisely the same. Got a call from our local Momsen agent and he told me that every single one of the STR frames they have in stock is the same and they can refund me as it's not worth the trouble for them to send it back to their suppliers.

So basically they told me that they are going to continue selling these frames as if nothing is wrong and I was the first person ever to have a problem with this.

I've got a silver STR29 frame, bottle cage bosses on the seat tube is slightly "skeef" otherwise nothing I can complain about.

BTW, the Momsen STR29 is the cheapest steel frame available. Most of the other frames are in the region of R10k (with the exception of the Soma Frames that was recently on sale on thehub).

Pretty sure it's true, in a recent storm 23 containers blew off various ships near Port Elizabeth.

Onky 6 were recovered I believe.

Maybe I should go swimming and see if I can find a few VIPA's..........

I wonder what the long term effects of salt water on carbon are?

Eish... Know about Surly and On-one, but never saw any pricing on them.

I have to say that I love my STR29.

Yeah the STR is a great frame, i just issues trying to get details and pricing from momsen when they launched it otherwise i would probably have one.

Seems communication is a bit of an issue with "local" companies, i had the same issue with contraband.. emailed, called etc. Nothing.

I bought my ON ONE INBRED for R1500 2 years ago

Eish I've been thinking about getting a Momsen AL129-229 as my first bike.  Having second thoughts now.

Their alloy frames are pretty good.

The carbon seems to be a bit iffy. I personnally had an SL frame crack, twice, before claiming it on my insurance.

become a disciple for his shop....this is him going the EXTRA mile, the best thing you can do is send him some word of mouth KARMA.

I have owned 6 Momsens, three of which carbon, and I haven't had a single issue on any of them. 2 of those are still around and going strong.

I have never physically met anyone who's had an issue on his / her frame. Only ever heard of a guy who knows a guy. Not saying it's never happened.
