This came in my inbox this morning, and I've always wondered about this one. since this takes place in langebaan, surely calling it warm water is equivalent to calling a fart in an igloo a heatwave?

otherwise it's a free plug, i suppose

It's actually a bit warmer than the surrounding ocean because the swim is done in the lagoon, so it's not a complete lie :)

Also, it's a pretty awesome setting and the run course is probably one of the most beautiful in the world. For the bike leg there are very few (if any) cars on the road, which makes it pretty safe.

Would definitely recommend doing this one if you can.

Nice race so long as they dint change the format on the day. Swim can be done sans wetsuit and you can make a lekker weekend of it. More of a family day out than a race

Swim can be done sans wetsuit

using that logic, this is also warm water?

I call a spade a spade, and this is not warmwater no matter which way you polish it.

anyway, lets use some science...if the caveman uses a wetsuit, it's probably not warm

Your logic is wrong as wetsuits are also used to swim faster, not only the cold. This is a shallow lagoon and probably well above 20 degs

Let's really flog this horse.

Triathlons have temperature limits where wetsuits can and can't be used.

Calling a wetsuit legal swim 'warm water ' is misleading.

Not knocking the event, but the name is a bit cheeky

The lagoon water is actually surprisingly very warm

Since we are flogging this horse have you ever swam in the lagoon or do you just assume its cold because its on the west coast?

Seems like you actually just started this thread to have a moan?

It's an awesome event, do it. If you just want to have a moan, then don't.

Your assumptions of my potential assumptions.......

I've done my fair share of sailing and windsurfing the length of the lagoon.

Loads of lekker days spent at kraalbaai(preekstoel), stood on a crapload of sandsharks(and broken bottles in the parking lot).

Had a school mate with a family shack at churchhaven before the yuppies ruined it brick by brick.

so ja, many memories of the place. Warm water not really being one of them, maybe if you compare it to Tsaarbank just up the road but ja

Warm is not a temperature - its a relative term when comparing to something colder. In this case the water temperature at most other races. Also the upper limit on wetsuit use is 24 deg's and the call to use or not use wetsuits gets made on the day so every race is wetsuit legal until deemed otherwise regardless of the events name. Is the term warm winters day cheeky and misleading. I doubt people enter because of the 'warm' water so how could that be misleading.
