Hi Hubbers

I want to get myself a GPS HRM and dont know what to get, I have been looking at some Polar's and then also came across a Tom Tom Multisport Bundle that doesnt seem like a bad price.

http://sport.takealot.com/sport-tomtom-multi-sport-gps-watch-bike-mount-hrm-cadence-speed-sensor/PLID28083337

Now Im wondering should I take the Tom Tom rather or Polar? In the Polar range I wanted to take the RCX3, but the Polar doesnt have GPS. Or should I rather use my cellphone and get a app like Map my ride and but does the Samsung Galaxy Note have accessories that one can get your cadence with?

PS: I dont know if this is the right section to post in, if not then Im saying sorry in advance

I use to ride with my phone and tracked everything with Strava. Then I felt the need for something I can run with too (phone just wasn't right for that).

This whole year I was looking and reading many many articles and comments about all the different watches and I use to have a Polar which really took abuse but after a few years it gave in last December (I was impressed with how long it lasted).

Main feachers I wanted was:

GPS, HRM, long batery life and water resistant.

A couple of Polars lost out to the last requirement and due to how they look.

Suunto brought out the Ambit3 in blue/teal which immediately drew my attention  , but when I started looking at the specs and capabilities (like interacting with phones and also charging and flie transfer to PC without having to take it off my arm) and a much longer batery life than most other GPS HRM I simply had to buy it.

The size (diameter=50mm) looked HUGE at 1st but after a day I was use to it on my arm and it is funny but the texture of the rubber strap make it feel like I have nothing on my arm (I wear it all day long every day now).

I have done the 94.7 road ride with it and a few normal MTB rides and also a few downhill runs and not ones did it bug me (sometimes when going downhill the vibrations of a watch on ones arm causes tender areas on the skin, this one didnt). [it has even lasted a bail or two without a scratch to show.)

The price seems a bit steap at 1st, but after owning it for almost a month now I have forgotten about the price because it has added simplicity to my life already.

You wanted exactly what I wanted from the watch as well, and I am looking for cadence sensor as well.

I will look at the Suunto as well as I already know that using my phone will not satisfy me and then I would have spend money on getting accessories that I will not use anymore. Thanx for the info

Which sports will you be tracking?

The Polar M400 appears to be a bargain if you mainly run and you can add other sports like cycling to it but it wont be able to provide cadence and power functions.

I have a fenix 2 and I also had a Forerunner 910XT.

I love both of them, changed from the Polar RCX5 primarily due to the separate GPS unit required on that watch.

These days it's probably the best option to figure out what you want it for and then shop around accordingly. DC Rainmaker has always provided the most thorough answers to my questions and there seems to be very little bias involved in spite of the fact that he appears to use Garmin gear when he's not testing.

After also looking into it I realized that it is more for running, I cycle so yeah wont be going with the M400.

I'm leaning more towards the Suunto Ambit 3 now, great watch but also pricey hehehe.

If its for cycling its probably better to look for cycling computer instead of a wrist watch.

I use the V800 (kind of the same as the M400) which is a triathlon watch, when cycling i "wear" it on the handlebars using the polar bike mount for watches....but its not an ideal way to mount when compared to proper bike mounted computers

Garmin Edge 500 or whatever the latest version is nice and compact and works rather well....

The reason why I looked at the watches is because I want to start training for triathlon's next year, I really want to do a iron man once in my life.

Ahhh soooo (chinese accent) you want to swim, cycle and run with it.... ^_^

If you not to fussy about tracking swim distances (indoor) and cadence / power on the bike then the M400 could still be an option (based on the price)

It could work as a stop watch with gps capability, have a lookat DC Rainmakers review

and while u there check out his other reviews....will give you more food for thought, maybe too much

I have the tomtom multisport and its great.

The only thing is lacks in comparison with the units 3 times the price is the longer battery life.

Its nice having the ability to upload directly to strava and other 3rd parties directly from the sync app though.

I looked at the 910/920 and ambit3 and the price difference just didnt make sense.

Sorry to high-jack your thread... but im also looking for the following:

1 - Heart rate

2 - Elevation

3 - GPS (obviously)

What entry level watches are there which will give me those data? I Loved Strava but sadly i think they disconnected my profile or my phone is just playing up.

I need only those 3 functions

.........

Aaaaahhhh....but if you pair it with the Wahoo Kickr.....then you get swim stroke and cadence etc......

And it pairs with the V800 or M400 via Bluetooth.
