More than hadbags over a name I'm very sure.

So as things stand there will be 2 tours on the same date in the same region by the same organisers as last year's race, what a cock-up.

What are your main concerns?  (I'm not stiring - interested to know).  Is it the moral aspect of ASG muscling in on TdB?  Or is it more a case of having 2 races (3 if you count Cape Rouleur) in the same area probably means they will both fall flat?  Both?

My biggest disappointment is that given how long it took to get a proper tour up and running in the WC and now this infighting is ruining everything. I think there is a real chance that both will fail.

On the moral thing, maybe cynical is a better word to describe ASG actions. They have every right to host a race without Carinus Lemmer's involvement if that is what they want to do. But the way they imply that their new race is really the Tour de Boland under a new name (while the Tour de Boland still exists) is dishonest imo You either have rights to a name or you don't, and if you don't, don't imply otherwise.

Anyway, would love to do the Tour de Boland next year but I'm definitely going to wait and see how things pan out.

I wonder if CSA will sanction both? A bit of leadership here might be a good thing

Let's move on to better things....Tour de Boland 2016 will happen, even if just 50 riders, then it is a real ''Tour' of the Boland' and we just work our way back to the top again.... we have muscle-memory, not muscle.

2016 Event page - oh, and we'll only take your money once we have enough entries / commitments, and yes, we applied for sanctioning yesterday. Let's see how that pans out, given that ASG owns the CSA relationships, not me :)

Naturally, we have prepared for this eventuality, and will go the legal route if needed, which could well be a good test case for future scenarios, where an entity pulls rug and adds muscle.

Patch, it is actually business - in 2015, each of your entry fees saw 2/3's go to the cost of filling a goodie bag. It is pure and unadulterated biz, nothing else. We were fine with that, till now.

Of the R2k we'll levy for the TdB 2016, all of it will be spent on the raw aspects of the event, and if there's anything left, we'll take a management fee.

We'll also continue to invest into Boland Cycling, by offering the club structure a chance to ride the tour at a discount rate, and even for free, where needed.

Please enter, specify during which month you feel comfortable paying, and we'll raise an invoice once certain that the event can go ahead.

The politics in cycling seens worse than at a high school dance!

Yeah - I hear you.  ASG should really have come out and just said we are no longer involved with TdB and are doing a  new race called the 'whatever'.

Lets hope The Tour de Boland happens in 2016. If I ride, I'd like to ride the Tour de Boland. It has a nice ring to it.

Think of it as the Kruger National Park suddenly becoming the Nelson Mandela Wildlife Park or something. With all due respect to the great man, when I go to the Kruger National Park, I want to go to the Kruger National Park.

Sometimes, when I'm in the mood, I still refer to "OR T" as Jan Smuts Airport. Just for kicks, and I like the ring to it.

Hi Dubber, it's not a new race - everything is the same - the Tour of Good Hope is everything the Tour de Boland was (same blueprint, same organisers, same sponsors, same 'vision', same PR company, same Television coverage, same pro teams, same IT support teams, UCI accreditation application, same sanctioning, same entry systems, same support, same charities, same development teams support, same traffic dept support, etc) ONLY MINUS CARINUS LEMMER (that's it) and the name (TOUR DE BOLAND) - Carinus registered the 'Tour de Boland' name and now personally laid claim to it (arguing it belongs to the ‘people’) after 3 years of ASG and ASG procured sponsors' investment.  We probably should have, but instead of disputing it we are carrying on under another name and relinquishing significant IP value in the old name – we took this path not wanting to get into a Social Media 'battle' with Mr Lemmer – so much for that idea J.  For a host of different reasons we have decided to completely part ways with Mr Lemmer.  To be 100% clear then, from our perspective, Tour of Good Hope is most certainly the previously called Tour de Boland and what Carinus will present (if he continues) is going to be something completely new with an old name.

In the end everyone has a choice which event they want to enter (if any) and what conclusions they want to draw (without all the facts which thankfully all event partners and sponsors do have) - despite this significant setback and unfortunate turn of events, we'll carry on presenting the best possible tour with some significant new features and improvements (as highlighted in our launch document which incidentally also addresses many of the issues raised in this forum).  Judging by the official event feedback (survey to current year participants) and pre-launch entries for 2016 (open to current year participants only) we would argue that we have the support and trust of most existing participants but realize that we also have a huge responsibility to deliver a fantastic event to them, our participant clients in 2016.

In closing we should also state that this entire process was initially completely out of our control – Mr Lemmer initiated the process (registering the name and informing people on Social Media that he is getting rid of ASG) - we only picked up on this in Social Media). We feel our reaction to him is more than appropriate considering all the facts and that's probably as much as we can say on a forum like this...

Looks like there was a tiff over the twitter handle too. @tourofgoodhope has all the legacy posts but a new @tourdeboland has been created

Morning

We are halfway to reaching our entry goal of 100 riders! If we reach 100, there's R200k in the kitty, which is enough to organise a good tour with.

A ''good"' tour means:

  1. Excellent electronic timing
  2. Excellent water points
  3. Excellent safety
  4. Excellent routes
  5. Excellent logistics
  6. Excellent people!

Your job will be to find accommodation and transport solutions for yourself - and ride a bike.

If you do not have budget to fork our R2k way ahead of time, our new fin-partner will provide you with a debit order option, where you have ten months to pay for your entry.

Please add your name to the database at www.tourdeboland.com

SInce the timing issue spoiled the TdB for me this year, what "Excellent electronic timing" are you planning on using? TdB and TdGH?

mobii, same as what is used by Light by Linea in WC road racing...managed by Top Events

Cool.

I am still very hesitant to join ASG in a tour. They have not fixed the open seeded results (after months now) and I'm quite confident that it won't be fixed. I entered fo the ASG Jock Tour prior to my bad experience at TdB (actually wanted to have a go at the "Daring Double"), what a waste.  For me, the Jock tour will be the decider, whether I want to continue to support any event hosted by ASG.
