Wonderful thread and just classic for Mtb Barbie to come on citing her 60yr old mother as the perp who thwarted the ambitions of our hero.

I can be pretty stupid, pretty often but it is so heartwarming to read the posts and thank a god that i am not him.

I feel kind of bad for the OP. He's been given a thorough and largely deserved working over by the members. So, OP, in the interests of being constructive here's a breakdown of why you got this reaction.

Firstly, never, ever, ever imply that you're more skilled than other riders. People can read through a hidden brag where someone bemoans the lack of skill of other mountain bikers they encounter on the trails. And it's even more cringe-worthy when it's written as if you're just looking out for the interests of all the rest of us. Even if you are good, Danny Macaskill doesn't go online to lament the hackers he encounters on his rides.

Secondly, if you're as intelligent as you like to present yourself then you should be able to see the absurdity of suggesting less talented riders stick to dirt roads. Nobody starts out highly skilled so removing every path to them improving is pretty stupid.

Thirdly, consider whether or not you might have been the knob before posting about an incident. Yeah, it's nice if other riders move over for you when they hear you coming but if you're on the beginner's route and encounter a sexagenarian on her first ride maybe let the KOM go this time. You wouldn't barge through a door ahead of an older lady at the office so why suddenly forget basic manners on the trail?

Lastly, when a group of people points out that you may have actually been the one in the wrong try considering what they're saying and why. An apology at that stage would have gone a whole lot further than sprouting lyrics from The Flight Of The Conchords: The Humans Are Dead. As great a song as it is it really holds no relevance to the discussion. None of us are right all the time, if you think you are then that's a great sign that you're wrong. You can still salvage this, partly, with a bit of tact, humility and a box of chocolates for the lady.

brilliant post, some how i feel while you entertained us, the time you took typing your response it  will be totally wasted on this skilled rider. if he considers himself right in the first place i fear those important life lessons were not taught and your post would be considered incorrect and would be like water off a ducks ass

I'm shocked...

No caps were harmed in the making of this post. Never thought I'd see the day.

That's okay, it was really just an excuse to use the word sexagenarian. The sexiest of all the generians.

You can be lucky I wasnt there to punch your two front teeth out.

I would like to take you to the spruit and teach you a thing or two about riding, I will make you hurt man
