Totally off topic......

Baggies vs Spandex for long rides?

Any chaving or bad experiences? What should I look for and avoid?

Baggies... always baggies, you shouldn't even have spandex in your kit, donate the one's you get for free.

So I have three choices:

2014 Trance for 24k

2015 Trance 2 for 27k

Dropper post add R 3.5k

Or 2015 Anthem for R30k with dropper included

Which would be best value?

Can afford either.

Or...you could buy the Anthem 29er and Trance 27.5's bastard son. Its called the Trance 29er, and for R25K it will come with a giant dropper (although the 2014 color schemes suck).

Yeah, awesome rider and he is testing this year for HRC.

Just wish they would release some lap times!!!!

The trance 29er is nice but I see from the specs it runs a 120mm fork. Is that right?

Does it have a 140mm rear travel? Seems like an odd bike then.

Now you're all confusing me. Had my mind pretty much set and then I read next discussion about the Giant reign. Aaaarg

Why are you not riding your Trance, yet?

Reign is a great bike, but to start with a Anthem and then end up buying a Reign is a bit wyd. Get the Trance, ride it this weekend. Buy me a Chocolate Sterri Stumpie to say thanks.

On my 4th Anthem, (composite now)

Buy it, ride it like it.

Its cheap compared to the others. Just park it next to an S-Works / Tallboy / Vipa and look at the componants, same same. (R20k still in your pocket)

....and bullet proof. Evidence = Epic

Good luck with what you decide.

(No need for Sterri Stumpie, not banting  ;) )

To get back to the OP .We both weigh 100kg .We need all the traction we can get from both wheels and as much as I like the idea of 27,5 ,I think 29 is the way to go .I remember very well the climbs in Groenkloof where I just spun out and lost traction on my 26 'wheels .My latest bike is a 23 inch frame 29er .BIG PEOPLE NEED BIG BIKES !

Sorry to disagree with you, however, I am 195 cm tall and weigh 93 KG's. Ride a 26" Trance, Conti rubber and stick to everything like I'm on rails. Was not always so, the right tyres, right tyre pressure (get a tyre pressure gauge) and correct suspension setup did the trick.

Its got 5 inches of rear travel (127mm) and comes with a 120mm fork. I will be upgrading my fork to a 140mm as soon as I have some cash.
