110mm - 120 mm travel. I am looking at these 2 bike but would like some input and other recommendations.

Price R38 000 - R 45000. Santa cruz is more than I would like to spend.

Personally I'd go for the Spez Camber. However, you can't really go wrong with either. Spez may have better after-sales support network.

The BMC has 20mm more rearwheel travel than the Spez (130mm vs 110mm).

Which variant of the BMC are you considering? XO, XT or XT-SLX?

Go and test both properly, i.e. not just a parking lot pedal.

They have very different suspension designs. Both brilliant bikes, nonetheless.

Who in Jozi stocks BMC?

velo life at the moment. They told me that BMC will have concept stores here soon and that the price of the bike will come down by a few grand

Do they have the Speedfox in stock yet? Go to BIKE magazines site and have a look at their review. Have a look at a Banshee Phantom or a Transition Smuggler as well those are some serious Trail/Am bikes with only 120mm travel.

Any idea who stocks Transition? I'm in the market for something along the lines of the smuggler/scout myself.

BMC dealers get stock directly from the manufacturers, so no middle man price gouging. At least that's what the BMC guys in Constantia told me. Still waiting for a quote though, so who knows?

Leave the Camber out of the mix, its still more xc than trail. If you want the best do it all trail bike in the world, get the original and best. Since 1981, the Spez Stumpjumper fsr.

they classify the Camber as a XC/trail bike so to the Speedfox been looking at reviews of both bikes and all of them say the same thing. The Speedfox is not meant as a full on trail bike. When I spoke to the previous importer about it he said that Bmc was punting it as a XC/trail bike.

The camber is more xc than trail, I have 1, I should know. They OP clearly states he is done with racing, and looking for a toy. I never mentioned the Speedfox, I dont know them, also would not consider one personally because there are no dealers in my area.

I know you have one I am telling you that that is what the Spez shop guys told me and what I have seen from the reviews the guys have written. To me it runs both ways and it seems like that is what they market it as well.
