Specialized Ground Control tyres

Rode Specialized Ground Control 27.5 x 2.1 rubber at the Red Barn. Unbelievable cornering. The well spaced knobs provide support all through the lean into and through a corner. They are also just big enough to tackle wet rocks, mud and loose conditions as well as provide a fast ride on the smooth. As good as expensive X-Kings and better than Racing Ralphs. Pricing is way better than any other equal tyre.

Subsequently removed the handlebar ends - they were a nightmare in the twisty tree lined tracks.

Roughly what does a tyre cost?

26x4.6 goes for around R1300  :whistling:  :P Oh wait that for the vettie tyres

Have seen them at under R500 a tyre in 29er and 27,5

Found that I preferred the GC on the front vs the rear .... what I am not too fond of on the Spaz "control" casings are that they are a little flexy under load in the corners so I would run a little more pressure to compensate for this, particularly in the rear.

Nice thing about them is that they are a decent volume and as you noted, roll very well.

Would be great if spaz could bring in the tyre range in the "grid" sidewall

I'm with Hairy. I'm running a 2.3 GC upfront. Without a doubt one of the best all-round tyres you can get.

However, I won't run a GC at the back again. The sidewalls are simply too soft and tear if you look at them wrong. I had a 2.3 GC at the back before getting my Ardent. Because the sidewalls are so soft, you have to run high pressures. If you don't, the tyre is very susceptible to load shifts, which negatively affect the handling.

I'm got ground control on the front and supergatory on the back, supergatory I find also are very flexy around the corners under weight.

Spez supplies a lot of their trailbikes with the Purgatory front and GC rear. I am running like this now on my TB LTc and much more confidence inspiring than UST Ardents I had before, also 400g lighter overall. Yes, they flex more so slightly more pressure, the grip is still better.

I have been told that they do but have never seen them.

I was running GC's, but have switched to Butchers - both front and rear. They stick a bit on the road, but are amazing on the dirt.

Ride style, rider weight and trail conditions also play a roll.

At the rear I have learnt that for me a ust tyre or a tlr with a reasonably sturdy carcass works better.

GC on the rear was great going in a straight line, it just felt like it would wash out a little easy especially if breaking on a slight camber.

A couple of years ago I had the renegades on both front and rear, then just on the rear. They are just about smooth, roll like no one's business yet somehow have rather good traction and feel.

Grid would be a great find if trail riding or if you are, let's just say big boned.

XCM........control casing should be more than sufficient. Saying that though some riders can pick lines at speed, or float / ride smoother than others, yet some again just have no finess and bash through and into everything on the trail.....The latter might not appreciate the control casing.

Overall though I do like the spaz rubber and they are very well priced ass noted in a earlier post by another.

Fantastic tyres, run a 2.3 gc at the front and a 2.1 gc rear. Yet to find a better overall tyre, and the price is superb.

I'm running a GC front and FT on the rear but keen to put the GC on the rear and get a Purg on the front, big issue is the GC I got is a SWorks so it's not a very stable sidewall on the Sworks for the rear.
