29ers are the fastest

Let me just add, walked past my desk now and my bike looks so damned sexy standing there that I just want to go out and ride it ... that makes me faster as I will ride more often and get fitter / faster.

Pure science I tell you!

Currently I have 3 bikes: carbon 650b trailbike (12kg), ridged 1988 steel 26er (14kg) and a 700c (<10kg).

The fastest of the 3 is the 650b (today), but yesterday that title went to the 26er as I had to do the school run (and the star seat is on its top-tube). The road bike is definitely the slowest as it's been hanging in my garage for more than a year.

As a friend told me 15 yrs ago while introducing me to wine: the best wine is the wine in your glass. (The wine in that glass at that time was a Muratie Pinot Noir, which is good even if not in my glass.) Likewise, the fastest wheel is on whichever bike of mine I'm actually riding and the best beer is the beer in my glass unless it is SAB/massed produced swill. (That last bit is off-topic)

I'm pretty sure the whole point of these discussions is to know what bike gives the most advantage for a given/fixed rider. ie: power and weight of the rider are fixed, they are not variables.

A lighter, strong rider would beat me every day, but that's not the point. We are comparing bikes, not rider. So is "Me" on a 29er faster than "Me" on a 26er? Is Me on geometry x faster than Me on geometry Y? That's what I would want to know. Bringing power:weight into the mix is like saying that all 26ers are faster because a 26er ridden by nino shurter is faster than a 29er ridden by me. He would beat me on a unicycle.

It negates the whole discussion IMO.

You will be faster on whatever bike you want to be faster on. That's the psychology of the cyclist

I am really disappointed that what was supposed to be a scientific proof actually didn't prove anything except the bias of the testers.

1 x Bells, for collection next time you're in CT.
