1800 guys at IM resulted in big bunches.....3000 will result in even bigger bunches....

Do the math.........  3,000 athletes x 10m (drafting regulation) = 30km line of cyclist.

New rules also state you not allowed to draft when overtaking.  In other words when 10 meters out you already need to move out of line.  I see a lot of blocking etc happening.

Having said that I did not notice any drafting in EL and also last year in Roth there were 4,000 athletes and there was no drafting.

Drafting tends to be an issue in windy conditions so if it is wind still then hopefully there will be minimal drafting.

Either way you can tell if a guy drafts on purpose.

And if they do then so what.  Ironman racing is against yourself not one another.  The serious racers at the front is normally very well monitored in any case.  (Except when DaveM is racing then I have to beat him)

that 30km line is assuming everyone starts at a separate point or time, reality is that all 3000 will commence the bike within a short period of time thus there will be bunches.

At all ultra's there are bunches of people around even when there is less than 500 entrants...with 3000 it is going to result in large bunches.

not the end of the world, the cycle leg is fantastic and fast, looking forward to it.

I find it sad when people are not bothered by large packs in a non drafting triathlon.

I get seriously upset if someone sits on my wheel deliberately. Expect 32Gi in the face. Cycling is my strength, I can't piggyback off you on the swim or the run. Go do your own training, I am not there to drag you to the finish.

Rant over.

Ummm - not correct Garf - 2015 IM Rules state age groupers may enter draft zone when overtaking, Pro's cannot.
