Hi guys. New member, long time stalker.

I'm moving to the Western Cape on the 10th of March and I'm looking to join a few guys to join on fun mtb rides. I've only been riding for a few months and currently average 17-20km per day. Obviously I won't be able to hang with the 35km daily riders and would prefer a group of people that are pretty new to cycling as well. I prefer single track doing single track over gravel roads.

I'll more than likely be based in Rondebosch.

Any leads?

Thank you

Get yourself a membership at Tygerberg MTB club to start with

http://www.tygerbergmtb.co.za/

Then go ride the trails and meet new folks at the coffee shop at Contermans kloof or Meerendal. You will soon meet new people who will be happy to have you join. I also ride there from time to time so you could happily PM me when you are here and I will take you for a nice mellow guided tour. Meerendal has some great starter to intermediate level ST to get some skills practice in.

I would say Tokai Forest is also a great ride by the sounds of it, since I have never been there, but lately it has been flooded by trail joggers and the like, and apparently the vibe gets pretty tense there.

Hi guys. New member, long time stalker.

Afternoon and welcome to The Hub. Chances are the Tygerberg trails will be too far out from Rondebosch for you to ride daily. I would suggest you get in touch with Myles aka El Capitan or Mark and arrange to hook up with them on their regular Tokai rides.

Tygerberg will be good over weekends and you will meet many like-minded riders.

Enjoy!

Not any more. The main protagonist and person who should have known better (and did, just didn't choose to act properly) has come to his senses and isn't leading runs on singletrack any more. He's also told most of the runners who use tokai that the trails are strictly off limits.

So no more tenseness on that front. It's all good, and everyone's behaving.

OP - we (myself and a few others) generally go to tokai at about 3pm on Sundays. We take it as slow as the slowest person, and like to muck around on the trails to improve skills, but have been known to do a proper, longer ride on occasion. It's a jolly vibe for sure, and you're more than welcome to join.

Sometimes we push, other times we pedal. It all depends on who is there at the time and how many people have hangovers...

Your easiest option for a daily ride is to get on Table Mountain at Rhodes Mem. Granted there is very little single track but it will be any easy option for you to fit in weekly rides!

If you know you are going to ride on the Mountain regularly it's worth getting the annual activity card. Works out way cheaper than the pay per ride option. Quickest place to pick up I've experienced is at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. (There's a kiosk on the left at the main entrance.)
