This is neither rant nor rave but it is not chit chat either.

Tokai is going to be logged.

So are we going to approach TMNP for reduced yearly fee for the next year considering we are going to loose half the rides up there and the increased inconvenience of trucks and everything else.

We could approach them with a signed mass appeal for reduced fees.

(Yah I know chances are next to nill but we Capetonians tend to be a pretty apathetic bunch)

Just putting it out there.

I have decided not to renew my card for this year. Despite the best efforts of the guys who put in long hours on the trails and in meetings with SanParks, the place has gone to pot since they started logging and from my point of view, MTB is no fun without trees and trails. I'd rather spend my money at Jonkers and although it costs me a bit more now for petrol, I find I am riding new trails further afield rather than just going to Tokai each week. SanParks can do without my money - at least for a while.

No. They have no power over the permit fees, it is set by the bigwigs in pretoria, and is a flat fee for mountain bike access to a nat'l park.

Give it a year or so... We'll be updating you with progress all the time anyway, so you can see if it's time to return!

After riding a bit in Jonkers the last couple of weeks I decided to go back to Tokai on sunday.

I did the snakes then the dh line and when I came to the top of vasbyt something occured to me. Thats it? Thats tokai isn't it. Well for me anyways. I mean you do it a couple times but there was nothing new that made me want to climb again.

I used to be part of the sentiment towards the old trails and how disappointing it was that the trees are disappearing. But after sunday I'm embracing the change.

I realise that our choices of trails will be limited during these changes but I dont mind that either. I'm looking forward to the changes. I think the wait will be worthit.

For the time being.

I'll be quite content messing around in vasbyt (brilliant work btw) DH3, roots, etc.

On a side note. A pump track of some sorts is below DH3 would be...EPIC

just sayin...

oh boy this rant ...........yet again

I don't think it's ever going to go away.

There's a new guy at the gate after 5h30. You should see the butt-hurt on some peoples' faces when he insists that they show him the cards and / or slips, and then proceeds to take the out of date ones away from them, then showing them back down to the hut to pay for a day-pass. After 6pm? No card / out of date card? no entry. Sorry...

Man, there were some angry people
