Advice on a fun trail, A/M bike

Hi all

I am thinking about what would be a good second bike.

I currently have an older Al Tallboy which is built fairly trail, pike 140mm, 1x10, wide bars, chunky tires etc...

I love the tallboy in so many ways and will keep it for longer rides and the odd race, but I find it lacking in two areas: big trail drops & jumps and tight twisty single track.

I am looking for a dedicated long travel, hard hitting trail monster of a bike which will be fun to chuck around the fast twisty stuff and encourage me to hit the gap jumps and bigger drops. This will be my "downhill" bike, but it must be capable of pedalling up to the trails first.

Some of my requirements: at Least 140mm rear travel, smaller wheels ( 26, 27.5), single crown fork, minimum deore spec. I already have the new Reign in mind, but am concerned about the really long wheelbase affecting tight cornering and producing a dull ride... any input from Reign owners would be appreciated.

Only suggestions within the price range of the Reign please, ~35k.

Thanks!

Alternative to the Reign is the RM Altitude 750. Very good bike. Also consider the Stumpjumper, or an Enduro (if you can find one in that price range)

According to a few testers, the reign is a monster of a bike, and eats up DH trail for breakfast. RM is more poppy and playful.

Check out the Bible of Bike Tests on Youtube, where they discuss upwards of 20 bikes and come to decisions on each one.

You mentioned 'downhill' (which can also climb)

Nothing describes the meta sx better.

65ha, 160mm travel monster and a bb lower than most people's morals.

2014 was the last 26er they made. I think

As said earlier The Banshee Rune! (26" or 27.5)

Or the Transition Patrol.

Both these are premium options. But you can go frame only & build it up with "value" parts.

Well if gonna jetset then the options are endless arent they.

Banshee & Transition are already in the country. There was a WP demo tour for Banshee in December. The first Transitions will be here next week...No jet setting required. (Unless you mean flying up from the Cape.)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

It seems like the meta sx stands out for me in terms of value, performance and looks, just not sure where I could find one locally.

Luckily there's some time before I can pull any triggers anyway...

Any idea who's bringing Transition in and what the pricing looks like?
