Shimano or sram 1x11?

If Shimano bring out a 1x11 XT version with 10-40 or 10-42, I will have a look, for now, 1x11 is far too expensive to tempt me away from my 1x10 11-42, even if I do agree that the 13-16-19 ratio change in the middle is not the best.

A 10t small cog on the cassette will not fit on current shimano hub drivers. So if Shimano comes out with a 10t on the cassette you are also in for a new hub driver.

Same if you try fitting SRAM 10-xx cassette you will need an XD compatible driver

Yip, the one by 10 with 42 conversion is ludicrous to me , again just my humble opinion .

My one bike is at 1x10 with a 34 front and 11-36 at the back, more than enough gears and I keep my cadence constant .

And what a beautiful piece of technology that XD driver is, one step in te right direction by SRAM again.

I THINK it was on one of the Vital / Pinkbike tests. Can't recall offhand... Been a long few days!

Can't find anything but speculation - if you come across it again, please let us know.

Thanks

I have been thinking of doing this. With the hills i ride with normal 2x10, the 38 front and 36 at the back are more than enough.

The 1x10 works fine. But i feel there is more tension on the normal ten speed chain.

The sram system works great just a tad expensive but nothing compared to the di2 1x11. Will the electronics really work like here in and joburg2c or epic?

Top end bike these days come with the sram system fitted. Does that not make a statement of its superiority?

No because Shimano only launched their 1x11 for this year .

SRAM 1x11 is attractive from an OEM perspective because the manufacture can buy a whole parts kit from SRAM including suspension.\

Shimano 2x10 is a stand alone component set and therefore the manufacturer needs to buy suspension from Fox, Rock Shox, Xfusion or other. That's a more expensive outlay.

So on the high end bikes it makes sense to spec SRAM cos its a lower overall cost at the OEM level and its more at the front of technology where the buyer is willing to pay the premium.

ower down you'll see XT and SLX is much more common.

I’ve always wondered if there is a correlation between people and their tastes, whether it is cars, bikes, gears etc. I love a Toyota Hilux and also Shimano, now I wonder, do the guys that likes Sram ride Ford?
