Spez Stumpjumper HT top tube clearance issues

Hi guys and gals, hope someone can help me.

I have a 2014 Stumpy HT. Love the bike and all the rest, but I have one concern. The gear selectors and break levers do not clear the top tube. I have found a FSA headset that can have limits set to the rotation, but unfortunately it will not work with the stumpy. I also do not want to install a stem that raises the bars higher than the seat.

And before you wise guys get going, selling the bike is NOT an option.

Thanks folks.

Why is that an issue? Most bikes these days don't have clearance. Or am I missing something. My Merida even had stops on the headset.

Echoing Dick here, but why is that a concern? You're hardly going to get that sort of rotation when riding, and if it's a transport problem, then take off the front wheel...

Point no. 01: most bikes do clear the bars / shifters over the top tube

Point no. 02: you WANT it to clear, if you go down and that shifter / bars, etc smashing into your top tube and leaving a nice dent or puncture.

just stick some clear vinyl to the top tube to prevent the scratches

That vinyl will prevent a scratch, but do nothing for a dent or puncture into the tubing.

without pics its hard to comment. I have noticed that some prefer a rise angle of more than 6% to try and get the bars as low as possible. A very low rise combined with flat bars and a very low cut steerer tube could all contribute to your problem.

Or ripping off your brake lever...

Have you had this discussion at your Spez store?

Hell its practically a new bike and I am sure they would try thier best to solve your concerns?

Droo and hairy... very valid points!

A mate of mine pushed a nice soft spot into the TT of his new carbon frame on the first ride like that.

Problem is if I run out of talent the bars could crack my carbon top tube. Spez says that's normal and therefore will not replace the frame if I do damage it in a crash. other bikes that have this issue have either a headset that will limit rotation or like in the case of the Bianci they have rubber stopper below the down tube to stop rotation.
