Brake lever & i spec shifter

I'm looking to upgrade to Shimano XT shifters.

I noticed i spec shifters and like the fact that they bolt straight to the brake lever.

As far as I can tell it doesn't have the gear indicator line but not a big deal for me. I very much like the simplicity and "clean" look (only one clamp each side on the cockpit).

So now here is the thing:

How can you check to see if the brake lever is i spec compatible?

Bike is a 2014 Anthem X1 with stock SLX brakes (don't have the exact model number at hand) - it is a new bike so I'd assume it will be fine BUT we all know assumption is the mother of all...

Hope someone can shed some light on this - thanks!!

Best way to check would be to check the model number of the brakes. But someone can check me on this, AFAIK all the 2014 SLX and up brakes should be i-spec compatible.

Most brake levers will be I spec compatible, just if you have an older bike check the model number on the lever as in mid 2013 they changed from the I-spec "A" to I-Spec "B" the lever will show the "B" but not the "A". then make sure you buy the corresponding shifters...The "A" shifters do not fit on the "B" brake levers.

BUT with a file and some skills it can be made to fit :whistling:

so if the model is BL-M675-B then I must get i spec B?

Yup, ispec B, have the same brakes on my Sprada.

Well with I spec B brakes -  get Spec B shifters

With I spec A brakes you can fit I spec A or I spec B shifter (nut for I spec A fitment incl)

I made my I spec A shifters fit my I spec B brakes but it is not a straight fit.

How did you do this?

Made a taper washer and used the bolt hole for the clamp from the other side. I spec A tab on shifter went into the I spec B hole. the taper washer went between the shifter and the lever on the bolt.

Dropped the shifter maybe 5mm but works well and the shifter is secure.

If I could find a set of I spec B bolts I would have used that and made the I spec A fit that.
