Is Over drive 2 (OD2) really so bad?

I need a fork for a new build, yes anoter one.

I have the option of a never used Fox float CTD evolution - OD2 or a new Suntour ( I think the epixon - 2 LBS both say what great value it is). Both cost around R4000.

I like the idea of fox better but don't recall anyone having nice things to say about OD2.

Is it really so difficult to get a headset, spacers and stem which will work? Should I just get the Suntour and can then use the stem which I already have?

Getting the parts is easy - the only issue really is that the top headset bearing lasts about 10 minutes and can only be had as part of a complete headset. Your main issue is the CTD EVO, which I wouldn't touch with a pointy stick.

I thought they had sorted out the problems with the ctd? Wasn't that with the earlier models?

FIT CTD, yes. CTD EVO is, as far as I know, still a crock.

Epicon is awesome, but it only costs R2800 - R3000 brand new. I also have the fox fork on my giant. I prefer the suntour to be very honest....

I have the Epicon on my GT, bought it back in 2011 and its easy to service and relatively easy to adjust travel (well you need to take it apart a bit....!) and in my opinion its a smoother for than the F32 on my Trance. Its currently at 120mm.

My Trance has the OD Fox etc on it (2011 Trance X), bought the bike back in Sept 2013 and its still doing fine after a good few KM's of riding.... Unfortunately the Epicon is 9m QR and the Fox is 15mm TA otherwise I would have a 140mm travel Epicon on my Trance and the GT would have a Fox!

The 2011 Evolution is a different animal, it's still got the old open bath RL damper which is bombproof.

I'm also running an Epicon on my 29er steel hard tail (at 120mm travel, with 15mm TA), love the fork. Would love to get the same one on my 26 inch. Done about 1600km on the fork and no issues (need to take it for its first service soon).

Note that there are a couple of versions of the Epicon/Epixon, the more expensive one should have "Low speed Compression adjust", where the cheaper one doesn't. Mine is the cheaper version, and I haven't even adjusted the Rebound.
