Ok, i will say something that might get me flamed for life. Last week I nearly hit a comuter with my truck. If a truck is loaded and the load is covered with a tarp and you get a suden gust of wind from the side the truck wil not be corrected in a second or two. It is not a car designed to handle with ease.

Hitting a cyclists or pedestrian can happen very easily without the driver being at fault. I had run over a sheep without even knowing it. The vehicle is just to heavy.

I do not say that in this instance the driver was not guilty, but I have never met someone who willingly drive over someone else.

please do not stone the driver before all the facts are out.

Rip fellow cyclist.

PS. Ek is afrikaans, so verskoon maar die grammar en spelling.

Breezer, somebody posted this video in the Safety Group on FB recently.

I found it quite sobering

Its as if the excuse "it was just an accident" can get you off from anything if you are behind the wheel.

All the truck driver needs to say is he didn't see the cyclist.

Driver should get locked up for at least 5 years, his recklessness resulted in someone loosing their life.

Our roads really have become lawless, people drive however they want  with no regard to anyone else.

These issues will only get fixed with an efficient police system so unfortunately I don't see any solution in the near future.

Ill stick to my MTB

RIP

I agree, there is no such thing as an "accident" accident implies that no-one was to blame. On the face of it; if the truck was not driving in the yellow line the cyclist would still be alive today plain and simple.

Sad. I will pray for the family. Carnage continues. What angers me is that if this is verified four cyclists have been murdered by truck drivers since the start of the year on our roads in Cape Town Metropolitan Area.

1. Woodbridge Island / R27

2. Camps Bay

3. Kalk Bay

4. Paarl

I call for the Western Cape government to implement stringent application of the cycling laws pertaining to vehicles infringing the law, and for harsher punishment for those who transgress those laws. It is open day for killing cyclists people, and we need to do something more than just have mass rides. We need to be getting together and protesting in a more vocal way. Look at how the majority of people in this country get what they want. It is time for cyclists to be heard, and maybe then we will be seen.

Hmmm, need to temper your words; I know it inflames a person when one of us get taken out. However:

1. Why was the cyclist not on the Cycle Path?

2. Have no knowledge

3. Cyclist was not riding on the allocated cycle section for that part of the road under construction.

4. Have no knowledge

Just seen on Facebook

The PPA is saddened by the news that yet another cyclist was killed today on the Malmesbury road whilst training for the upcoming Cycle Tour. Thomas Williams who participated in the Awareness Ride and who was selected to ride in the PPA 'Stay Wider of the Rider' Safe Cycling Group was hit from behind by a construction truck . This is the third incident involving a construction truck in the last two weeks. Our sincere condolences to his family ‪#‎staywider
