What is the PPA Doing

I wonder if the City of Cape Town made a donation before making this request......how dare they if they have not? R10 from every dog and cat licence collected this year seems fair.

Oh sorry I didnt realize that 35000 dogs and cats paid R350 to go to the SPCA for ONE day, compare apples with apples.

Nictex, help out or don't help out. But don't look at others and say "I'm not donating because I don't know how much exactly they have or haven't donated". It should come from whithin yourself if you want to help...

still don't get the point.  maybe you should check on the definitions between profit and income...  just because the CTCT generates a lot of income does not mean that they have extra money to throw around.

and if they could afford to just cough up a R350k donation as you suggest they are easily capable of, then I'd kindly like some of my money back!

As I understand it CTCT and PPA share the profit of the Cycle Tour. Last year PPA received an income of excess of R4mio from the CTCT.. PPA then kindly put R5mio into a trust fund that has now grown to R20mio. I think it is a valid question to ask if PPA cannot donate half of the profits they get from the CTCT to the fire efforts. As a PPA member I would rather see that happen than a trust fund growing by another R5mio this year.

PPA received in excess of R4mio from the CTCT last year, and then "saved" R5mio into a trust fund. R350k is not going to break the bank if you look at the PPA Financial report.

If PPA are funded by race entries and they have too much cash than they can spend, then race entries are too high.

It's not as if PPA is just sitting on the cash watching it grow.  It's not a retirement fund!  they use the money for projects that you probably never see.

I saw them a few months ago on Kommetjie Road essentially having a road block for all the cyclists coming out of Masiphumelele and giving them high viz bands, rear LED lights and helmets too.  There was no "look how wonderful we are" about it - they just did it.

And that's with money from the cycle tour.

There's no reason that PPA should be contributing half of what they get from the tour into the wild fire services.  It's illogical.  Maybe that's the issue with this thread...

I would agree with you if they did not have a trust fund built up by members and events. As a member I am happy to vote that they use some of the money for a donation to the "fire"

So you have an issue with the money being invested as opposed to just sitting in a standard account?

I'd call that wise financial management.

I must be dumb....but if you let stupid people beat you with experiance at their level....what does that say about your intelligence. ..????????

No problem with investing, but TWENTY MILLION RAND ... a bit much.  as I said earlier, to donate R350k out of a PPA income of R4mio for the CTCT is ok with me as a PPA member.

To be honest this thread must win the award for most average contribution to the events of this week. The fire isn't over yet, people, companies, organisation etc haven't stopped donating yet. Maybe they will but if they do I imagine it'll be after the race or there might event be something in todays press conference about the route / race.

Why not email them and ask what they are planning to do, ask CTCT what they are going to do and what their policy is regarding donations. Chase Momentum, chase PnP, chase Round Table and be constructive.

But here is a hint, why not shelve the pitch forks for PPA and CTCT until after they have worked out how there are going to run 35,000 riders on a new route while acting sensitively to the events and locations that have been effected.

Disagree. If 20bar is what they have in the fund, then my feeling is that it gives them weight. They don't have to go cap in hand to ask for funds. They can pay for professional advice/services when they need it. They can self-fund on the lean years.

Of course, it's also beholden on us members to make sure that the money is wisely spent on good projects, and not on huge management salaries, jobs for pals, and overseas jollies... all of which are national sports these days.
