Truly, this time I plead 'not guilty'! Unless you are the Mr Dick that made the stupid comment about cyclists quoted on page 1, and I'm pretty sure you are not. I'm with you on this one.

Then I apologise. Sorry. Yesterday was a looooong day.

We should pull that Siyabonga Sesant report apart to understand what is happening increasingly in news reports.

"WC emergency officials say the crash occurred after the driver swerved... "

Then goes on to quote the EMS spokesman who actually said, "It appears the.. "

The reader understands the opening and glazes over the quote taking out of the report the interpretation of the reporter. The interpretation is basically wrong and still passes any proofing process.

Makes me wonder if the problem doesn't stem from higher up the news hierarchy??

Anyone listening to Keeno Kammies on Cape Talk this morning would have picked up on a very clear anti-cyclist bias on the part of both Kammies and the traffic official interviewed. Despite the driver's version recorded in other posts above and statements by a Rugby Club official, who witnessed the incident from another vehicle, absolving the cyclists from blame, both Kammies and the Traffic Official sought to imply that the accident would not have happened but for the conduct of the cyclists.

The Rugby Club official clearly stated that the emergency situation arose well before the cyclists were encountered. The cyclists were merely at the wrong place at the wrong time. Comments to the effect that the bus driver sought to avoid the cyclists related to the attempts of the driver to mitigate harm after the emergency arose.

Manner in which Kammies sought to suggest a version to the witness was particularly disturbing. If any hubbers with PPA connections read this, I would call on the PPA to obtain and preserve the transcript of this mornings broadcast as a matter or urgency so to as to protect both the cyclists involved and the cause of cycling in general.

all the shows are recorded.

did not hear the talk - but you can report him to the Broadcasting corporation and they will have a hearing.

Then I urge the PPA to become involved in this matter on behalf of cyclists. I hope that EVERY single person that spewed untruths or half truths to damage the already poor relationship between cyclist and motorists will be made to eat their words and make amends. We cannot let this one slide!

I don't think it is of sufficient gravity to report nor would I seek for him to be sanctioned.

My suggestion to obtain a transcript is made out of an abundance of caution. Nothing might come of it, but its comforting to have just in case. I refer in this instance to a recording of the witness' version.

Agreed.  Professional Journalism have standards that must be adhered to and cannot be just 'Free Speech:  Just saying what you want to'.

Once these 'Journalists'  are held to a standard they will do proper research before spewing a story just to be sensationalist.

Send it to KFM, Their news broadcasts still outdated. :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:

If one idiot says something they like, the rest of the media quotes it without as much of a second thought. This incorrect story about the "cyclists causing the fatal bus crash will be repeated again and again until half the country believe it is true. THAT is why we have to stop this "news incest" in its' tracks!

It sounds like the driver is at fault because he was coming down a bit fast and at the bend, he probably went over white solid lane and the brakes might failed. He was surprised to see the cyclists coming up and he turned the steering wheel so hard, that causes the bus overturned...

So it is actually bus driver or bus owner's fault....
