The split times are based on the groups finishing in those times, rather than individuals.

VA went slower up Pooks Hill, compared to VC and AL but still finished faster over the route.

I'm sure the 2:30 time can be changed to match the 2:35 and 2:40 start times.

Racing groups are harder to judge as they aren't riding for time like open seeded groups.

Thanks Gerald, Quick Question, Where your points are in relation to a hill, Would this be the summit or base of said incline?

I also wondered that, like with Cedar rd, will it be as you get onto it or finish it?

In general, I dont know where most of those 'land marks' are anyway, will have to go do some studying.

  • Pooks Hill (intersection with Summit Road)
  • Blue Hills (intersection of Summit and R55)
  • HeartBreak Hill (summit)
  • Old Finish (intersection with Maxwell Dr)
  • M1 (the onramp)
  • Wilds (the intersection with Houghton Drive)
  • Highest Point (just before descent passing Ponte)
  • Carr Street (offramp from M1)
  • Zoo (in the dip)
  • Hyde Park (intersection with William Nicol)
  • Republic (intersection, not the top of the drag)
  • Douglas & Witkoppen (intersection)
  • Malibongwe (after the detour through the industrial area)
  • Lion Park (intersection)
  • Cedar Drive (intersection)
  • Steyn City (as you leave Cedar Drive)
  • William Nicol (under the bridge)
  • Finish (2014 finish line - hopefully they keep it in the same place).

Not too worried about the racing groups, as I know it's about position rather than speed.

The 2:30 data comes from the VA bunch - or at least 2 guys I know that were in VA.

Jeez, the organisers should be paying you for this!!

What I mean was that a strong rider from AL trying to ride a 2:30 based on 2014 VA data, would basically have a funride for the first half then bury himself in the red zone for the second half :D

Just doing what I enjoy - besides, their previous split calculator was never updated with the minor changes to the route over the years.

Pretty much.

Or they could use the 2:35 time which comes from a number of start groups and ride a little faster.

Then there's the weather and the bunch dynamics on the day.

"Minor changes"

I did a Split time calculator for last years event. It takes into account the faster sections (like past the zoo) and also the slower sections into Steyn City and the finish.

I will get this up on the CC Website for 2015.

Tried to attach here but says I am not permitted to attach Excel files???

2014 excluded.

I was referring to the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 routes.

Clockwise around the CBD, counter-clockwise, the Square in town was added or wasn't there before.

You can ZIP the file, then attach.

Will be interesting to see the comparison, as I've used Strava data for most of the bunches (looked up the name son Racetec to check they were in the bunch and not a solo rider (either off the back of a faster group, or a solo TT to the finish).

The slower the times, the harder it will be to collect data, as they riders might be hopping on an off other groups.
